Karma - why it’s pointless

Hi All, my first post here.

 

I’m really annoyed now. My karma is usually zero, I gain some then I lose some. I dont play divs so I rarely get complimented. I also did not pay attention to how I lose it. I do not abuse people in chat, so mostly I should be losing karma for bad plays. I surely have many bad plays, so no problem with that. 
 

But today I had a good run in brawls in okhotnik. Won many games and surprisingly also got some karma. Then I switch to t8-t10 randoms in Iowa. I have pretty decent game, 1st in the winning team, 3 kills, over 2k base xp. Then what? Lost 2 karma. Some dd guy reported me, possibly he felt my bb did not help him in the cap (he got killed almost instantly after rushing into it). How does it make sense to lose karma while winning big time, just because some delusional loser had bad moment.

 

Is this bad luck or it just look this way here?

Karma is essentially just a tool to blow off steam in the game, and hopefully to reduce the amount of abusive messages that get sent.  If you annoy more people than you entertain, then it'll stay at or around zero.

 

If it bothers you to see it, I'm fairly certain there's a mod in the official modpack to disable it (karmaflage or something similar?)

Karma is for venting

 

(But it works, just had a Brawl game. The DD, recoll acount, who died first started bullying the newbie BB. I reported him the complete broadside, without commenting it. After the game, chat window opens, the recoll starts attacking me. LOL. So, karma works, it leaves a mark)

Did it ever have any real function, like being tied to potential rewards or something? Cause I don't actually remember.

 

Right now it's pretty useless, and certainly not worth bothering about.

Right now it's pretty useless, and certainly not worth bothering about.

afaik very long time ago it periodically gave some rewards like signals etc when you had a high enough score ...

like collectors club has become nothing ... just mark of an ... which some proudly carry

• Recoll account
• Brawl-mode
• T22, inside the cap: smokes up, pops hydro
• dies first
• has matchmatching monitor running
• start bullying the newbie BB
• Mission of the other BB (Cpt_Andre): Yoloing into the middle of the cap, running WoWs.exe in window-mode, watching German WoWs-Twitch-Stream parallel, hopefully get somehow 4 wins for 750.000 credits, also farming damage and pot. damage for pan-asian early access shenanigan...
• game lost & return to port
• "You were reported. Your karma decresed by 2" 
• Going back into the battle results, what's the name of the other f****er, remenbering Cpt_Andre
• return to port, seraching for the name, writing insults...

there is a mod called "permanent karmaflage" in the aslain modpack, changing your displayed karma value to a pointless number. It does not change your actual value, just you can't see the correct value anymore.  Perfect to forget about this useless yet itchy value.

I try not to bother noticing my karma after all why worry about something that has no value. 
 

However I have noticed a lot of volatility in compliments and reports recently just from seeing the notifications appearing when in port. 
 

Weirdly I usually get compliments when I’m the best player in a loss where as I’m very likely to get reported if I’m the best player on the winning team.

Huh?

 

Div players can't compliment each other, and other players are more likely to compliment you if you do well while solo.

If only it worked like that in practice! You can just as easily get reported by an opponent for performing especially well against them (happily/sadly, depending on your point of view, this rarely happens to me)...

 

If you do something socially reprehensible, like play submarines, you may well also get reported on general principles.

Yeah.Normally I only get karma when I get absolutely more xp than others and win that match.

But i lost them just because i don't act as they hope.

Karma doesn't give you anything but a useless number on top of your nickname...as you stated it is something pointless

Another thing that I can't understand is that DDs and cruisers that die in the first 5 minutes of match are always forgiven. It seemed that their deaths were normal and no one would blame them.
Instead, the ship that fights to the end will be blamed.

It's true that you're at bigger risk when you're playing DDs and cruisers.
But if we analyse from the result, they got very low XP and died without doing anything.

Maybe because whoever is last is the one who loses the battle? At least that's how many may see it, though it's not always fair, because this is supposed to be a team play effort. Sometimes the last one may also win the battle, so you can end up either with the shame or the glory, depending.

I blame BBs that survive by hiding the entire game, who charge the enemy with full HP at the end when their entire team has died.
