I mistakenly tried to report a cheat, but was only me being plain stupid

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening Everyone,

I run myself into a cheater. Fact.

I'm playing Gearing, he is playing Gearing.

I have stealth module mounted, so does he (educated guess)

I have camo (-3% spotting) he has camo (the demonic camo I have on another DD, so I checked, and is -3% as well)

Cap with 19 points, so I have the lower detectability skill, so does he (educated guess)

I have RPF, so I know his general direction, and I am paying attention to the screen.

I get detected way before i can see him. We should be both at 5.9km detection range, but I spot him when he is at 5.4km (which is the Kagero sotting range with camo, cap and module installed)

How can I report it? I don't think I'm mistaken, and even if I'm a real bad player, I don't get mad when I make mistakes; I try to learn from them. In this case I don't think was my misplay or my ineptitude.

Many Thanks

Ok. My bad, my mistake, new thing to learn.

Many Thanks for the help, sorry for the f**k up.

I did not see it possible to be mounted on my Gearing like other special modules, so I completely ignored the existence of it.

Constructive note: there is also a 200m window in which detection "may" occur, which leads to ships that have equal detectability not always seeing eachother at the very same time.

This is in fact a [edited] mechanic, only introduced for server optimisation

I guess if your ping is better you get alerted a few milliseconds earlier than your opponent if detectabilities are equal, because the server's notification reaches you faster. :Smile_playing:

Legendary mod in Gearing gives further concealment resulting in 5.6km detection range but gives lower firing rate. Ad simple as that.

You don't see the upgrade as you don't have unlocked the Research Bureau, which requires 5 techtree T10 :Smile_Default:

I guess no harm was done - and points to you for acknowledging your  mistake! :Smile_Default:

Might I suggest that you edit the title of the thread to something neutral, so that it does not continue to proclaim a cheat?

Click edit and you should be able to change the wording...

Wh,.people always do to "cheater fact" instead of asking what the reason could be ...

Fair guess: Cause people also always ask which T9-10 ship they should buy rather than asking if they are ready for high tiers and, if not, how to improve.

But honestly. Yeah, it's a bit unfair if people come into the forum accusing others of cheating. It's a big warning sign that the game is getting way too complicated for new players to memorize the important details. Every year we get at least 50 new ships. We get new currencies, tokens, whole batteries of combat missions, dockyards. Now WG even tries to force a new ship class into the game.

What do the players do? They get overburdened and stop trying to understand the details. Then such conflicts happen, where one player doesn't understand the mechanics and options of the game and ofc the blame is put on the player, not on Wargaming, who have even outsourced their Wiki to the community.

And instead of peacefully playing the game, we get these ingame discussions, where people have to defend themselves against stupid accusations, cause bloating the game has become the prime way of making money. I just wish, WG would care as much for the longevity of the game as we do.

Bear in mind that the Kléber has a similar Legendary Upgrade, but much more pronounced: the best surface detection range drops to 6.2 km, at the price of an awful gun reload.

Then again, fewer people have it compared to the Gearing's, I reckon, as it changes the playstyle altogether.

It's not a fk up. Don't be too hard on  yourself. We all do mistakes, all the time. Sometimes this is how you learn a new thing :cap_like:

I'm sorry to disagree in some way... I have only one tier 10 (the Gearing) and 3 tier 9 (2 of them being DDs). I did not buy any premium, and the 4 or 5 that i have came through mission or crates; highest tier being the Nelson.

I know that most of the times I'm an hindrance to most tier 10 players, but I also got complimented sometimes because I did what I could, and helped with smoke screen, cap or spotting without trying glory of big numbers.

Yes, I did a mistake because I did not know about the Legendary Module of the Gearing, but this mistaken topic have helped me gaining new knowledge. I exposed my thoughts to the Forum, stating the capabilities of my Gearing against the other gentleman Gearing, i got my [edited]whooped in that game, and in the forum, even though almost all of the replies have been clear, instructive and supportive.

On the other hand I concur with You that the game is  expanding and is difficult to keep track of all the details of new ships, premium ships etcetera but, confident in what I've seen here, there will be always a helpful hand to address who wants to know more.

I understand your learnt your lesson. I hope you understand I was not making a statement about you, at least not you specifically. I tried to say something about the mentality in the player base that we face regularly, which is one of infallibility. People regularly don't leave room for personal error. It's a phenomenon that has been instilled into people, not being allowed to be wrong, that being wrong is a sign of weakness. Now the community is full of not so good players, who are never wrong. Ironically I div up with lots of pretty good players who often lament over their own mistakes.

So there is two theories. Either both are right, which is obviously not true, or both got a flawed perception. For the bad players their perception of perfection keeps them from noticing their mistakes and keeps them from not repeating them, a.k.a. improving, while the good players being overly critical of their plays will continuously improve. They likely started with the same lack of skill and their preception made all the difference.

Finally, concerning your case Gearing vs Gearing, there is one aspect that hasn't been mentioned so far:

A legendary Gearing is mostly used in Clan Battles. It doesn't make the Gearing a better ship, it makes it a better spotter at the cost of its firepower. In Clan Battles that is a good deal, since the DD needs to provide spotting and survive. In random battles the LM-Gearing is inferior, cause it spots for selfish players, who often fail to hit crucial targets. You can't trust your random teams to turn your spotting into something useful. At the same time, you are shooting less, since the LM-Gearing is a shift from hunter to hunted. I got the LM and I am not using it, since the 15% penalty on dpm is imo not worth it.

The point being, you were not at a disadvantage against this LM-Gearing. You could outgun it, as long as you manage to lure it in. It's not so different from playing against a Shimakaze. The key is to engage it on your terms.

i find that the ships show up on the MIni Map first then a second later they will appear on screen. But that 1 sec gives me time to start bring weapons to bear.

Oh yes, after thousands of matches, I exactly faced three times such a Kléber.

And I always had enough time to compliment each player before destroying him. :fish_cute_2:

But yes, there are existing epic videos on YT where you can get 200+k damage. However, it might be the same probability like facing a legendary Kléber in general.

@Wuolfe81

Welcome to the forum. Nice meeting someone that is not afraid to admit they made a mistake and correct it. Chapeau.

Your OP was wrong, however, your reaction once you discovered you erred was that of a sensible and correct person.

Allow me please to give you a piece of advise. If you notice something in game and it is rather disturbing, it might be the case that you did not perceive everything correctly. So, it would be better to ask a question like "Guys, here is what I witnessed. What are your thoughts about it?"

In this way you will avoid having to correct. BTW, we all end up with our foot in mouth. The author of this post has done also.

Once again welcome to the forum.

Admittedly, with people grinding for Schlieffen and GK hydro has become a bit too common at high tiers. All the Ragnars and Nakhimovs don't help, either, for now...
