The 'con' list looks longer than the 'pro' list... and I don't like getting conned... :Smile_unsure:

Seriously speaking.. I'm still p***ed that Vanguard isn't tier X. Easy pass for me. :cap_yes:

Nice to see LWM back in action regardless. :fish_happy:

Nice to see LWM still making reviews after all that happened. She still loves the game, and that is nice to see.

It really is a bit disheartening to see the opinions on Marlborough. I love british battleships, but if it really plays like the opinions on it so far seem to suggest, this one seems really frustrating. It's always annoying having to fight gun dispersion, and having to rely on RNG for damage is never a good design idea...

I've come to the conclusion that dock yard ships are always nerf'ed to some degree and need to be, Puerto Rico aside they've all been easily obtainable for a modest outlay in dubs, if the ships were any good in the hands of novice players it would wreck both the economy and gameplay. If the Marlborough was even within spitting distance of a JB it would just be a fire breathing credit printer given its a T9 premium with a 100% XP camo bonus.

To be honest I just view the Marlborough as a 'free' bonus, the dubs for the starter pack pays for itself with the 2000 steel 4000 research points and 10K of coal. A tier 9 premium ship in port is always a welcome addition come snowflake time and you could use it instead of the Agincourt in coop for those missions requiring BB fire damage, 25 second reload pretty much ideal to light up the bot BBs with 2 salvoes since they always put fires out immediately so the second salvo will deal a perma fire.

I look forward to taking Marlborough out, I seem to do OK in all the ships that the 'experts' claim are subpar and just scrape by on the 'good' ships

This is ridiculous. I am actually better off playing KGV at T9 than Marlborough. Just ridiculous.

Oh and this. WTF were they thinking....

"And if you're thinking "oh, well she's soft skinned because Royal Navy battleships get a good heal", stop right there.  Marlborough has a worse heal than any of the other Royal Navy battleships in the game.  So not only does she take more damage than other Royal Navy battleships, she doesn't recover health anywhere near as quickly."

It's not as bad as you think guys. But yeah it won't do much carry. So I play it only in divs and it can do the damage melting down people that call you p2w and you get reported for just firing your guns. Eh.... But the biggest fail 2 days ago was a guy that said that Ohio is p2w when he came full broadside 3km in his Bourgogne having 37k hp and I clapped him....

Here are my 9 battles on Marlborough so far.

I read the review.

Thing is, this barf is another premium shill to sucker the idiots into spending money.

Verdict (for me): 'NYET!'

Heck, I just realized I am better off in Lyon too -- its 16 guns have a fire chance of 26%.

Hahahahaha.

This. You basically paying 5.5k for a  starter pack for these bonus last 5 stages. You also getting a mega gift crate so I think all these 4 rewards are probably worth around 5.5k  plus the ship  you get for "free". You kind of therefore paying nothing for the ship so thats why you generally get a nothing ship.:Smile_child:

Well, the typical MB players apparently have slightly worse stats than you... at least those I have seen so far.

Yeah when they announced 16 guns, I though okay, that sounds fun. When 1.4 sigma was announced, I though okay, clearly Colombo didn't suck hard enough so if I want maximum sucktitude I can now buy it with dubs?

Nope I am saying I am swapping the Dubs for the other resources and get a ship thrown in, I wouldn't bother with the starter pack otherwise, since I don't need another Tier 9 premium BB. Between JB, Georgia,  Marco Polo, Pommern and Hizen most if not all situations covered and with 7 Premium/Special British BBs don't need another as a captain trainer or credit printer (I've got all the non CV tech line British ships, anyway!), the fact its a good or bad ship doesn't come into my personal equation, for other people, may be a little newer to the game, getting a premium T9 BB that's pretty much guaranteed to provide a net profit in credits every game (a dozen HE quarter pen salvos from 16  guns before dying should give enough damage for a positive credit haul, most non DD players last longer than 5 minutes in a game!), without forking out a sizable amount of hard cash might be a bigger deal.

What I am saying is the game would suffer if they gave away an over powered Tier 9 BB to anyone with 5500 dubs! A ship with high skill ceiling means those who can take advantage of the ship's pros whilst mitigating its cons will have a good time, whilst joe average won't ruin every game by burning the other team to ash in 10 minutes and so won't end up with 5 Marlboroughs in every game. Without a higher barrier to entry all dock yard ships need to have a reasonably high skill ceiling, give the Anchorage, Baltimore guns and smoke detection even keeping the 15.5sec reload things would suck for everyone else!

The Marlborough is different from almost all the other Premium British BBs which have a slant towards AP performance than the tech line and can offer a different play style, the Marlborough is more like an up tiered KGV, if they gave it better sigma and firing angles with 16 guns that fires HE, a base 25sec reload that can drop below 20 secs with AR and MBM3 every same tier destroyer without a detonation flag that gets spotted within its own firing range by the Marlborough is a candidate to be instantly deleted by someone with half decent aim and those that might survive the first salvo won't survive the second, the KGV has equally 'bad' firing angles otherwise it would do the same to T7 DDs, balance is not just about what happens between ships of the same class.

Finally, one man's meat is another man's poison, I happen to like the Monarch and think the Bismarck is trash which I am sure is the minority opinion! I might like the Marlborough I might not but I am not really going to know just by reading what someone else scrawls

I made the mistake of whaling, I bought the repulse not intending to get the Marley, however I have just unlocked it fromt he dockyard missions, oh well. Tried it. I am not a unicum, however I can aim. Jesus. Broadsiding BB most of the shells missed at 16km. his return fire hit and citadelled me, I was angled in. yeah, I think LWM is right on the money with this one, that said she usually is right on the money.

Perhaps it is best to say that 'Marley' is a "connesseur's ship". For people who enjoy that little bit of extra challenge where things would otherwise be too easy.

Challenge? I believe the word you're looking for is 'Masochism' for wanting to play it, and 'Sadism' on WeeGee's part for inflicting it upon us.

Yes, that is actually word that I wanted to say out loud, but was trying to remain somewhat considerate in my turns of phrase. :cap_tea:

Playing it solo isn't great. Just like playing Colbert or Belfast 43. Some ships are great in division. Others like Druid or Elbing are even better playing solo than in a div. And some are bad no matter div or not. Things like Z-31 which just painful to play, same with Vittorio Veneto.

Last for WR of all T9 BBs.

:cap_like:GG WG.

Very very weak performance, especially for a new premium ship.

Played one game, not bad. But, like many of you noted, the shell dispersion is, how to say...shells are very independent. Fire a shot, and one shell goes to France, another to England and the other to Spain. AP is not reliable so it's basically a fire flaming dragon that coughs a lot. Charging into any BB or multiple cruiser will result in rapid hp drain. Hence, kiting position is the safest way unless you are behind a cover or overwhelm enemy with more ships. Is it a bad ship? I don't think so. Is it a good ship? No. It's mediocre. In a T10 dominant game with CV this ship will struggle. The sigma improvement or better armor could make this ship enjoyable to play. At the moment, it isn't a fun ship to play, at least for me as a solo player.

Note: This was an all T9 game.
