Belfast 43 do or don't?

So soon I will have enough gold to buy another ship. I am a DD main, but also play DD support cruisers. I like Plymouth. I know Belfast 43 is the poor cousin of the T7 ship.

In your opinion, is B 43 a good ship to buy? If not, which one currently available would you prefer?

It's ok ship. I have good results in it, 4th place on the server in terms of PR. Needs to be played carefully.

But like most tier 7, suffers heavily when uptiered.

It's T8.

So it suffers uptiering even more.

Wichita is not bad. You have Balti armor scheme, stealth radar and improved AP angles (not super heavy though) with good shell velocity, and you are THE fastest American cruiser on the market. If you know Balti, that could be very nice.

Also you should consider the ULTIMATE DD support cruiser... Tiger '59:cap_tea:

I thought Lidlfast was at the same tier as OGfast :cap_hmm: Then I stand corrected. Still, relatively short ranged tier 8 cruiser is still not going to have fun when uptiered hard.

But being T8 with the IFHE can pen the 32mm...

Atago. Best premium cruiser for its class.

Totally agree, but it’s a very difficult ship to play. The play style is very different from DDs and Belfast though, it’s all about stealth and kiting. Its armour scheme makes Atago very unforgiving so even a little mistake can send you directly back to harbour :cap_fainting:

It probably better to grind the IJN cruiser line first to make sure one enjoys that play style ^^

But once familiar with it and with the right build, Atago is just pure joy.

Spamming HE while remaining undetected… :cap_haloween:

Thanks for all your replies.

I have the impression that T8-9 is just a bad place for cruisers to be. Most of them can be blapped on sight by 16 or 18" gunned BBs from across the map. And the few that can't are mostly big RU phantasy cruisers that are uninteresting to play.

As a result you are forced into very defensive gameplay, or you have to accept that every other game some '666_Sniper' in his Mushi sends you back to port early.

This is pretty much it, T8-9 cruiser gameplay is quite delicate to apprehend. Show a little bit too much broadside and you’re back to port, angle your armour and you’ll « only » lose 20% of your health.
German cruisers tend to have slightly better armour but you definitely can’t play them as battleships.

In terms of concealment and mobility, cruisers are bested by destroyers. In terms of firepower and protection, they’re bested by battleships. It’s even more visible in T8 and 9, especially with T8-9-10 battleship guns.

However, the gameplay doesn’t have to be defensive; kiting, hit and run also work well ^^

If you’re playing DD support though, you’ll definitely want a cruiser with smoke and good HE.

Well, yes and no. Huge citadel=easily blapped if you give sides (which you never should if you play Atago correctly) but 32mm huge torpedo bulges and unique 41mm deck plating will quite often troll many a BB

That’s what I meant, sorry for the misunderstanding ^^

If you make any mistake with Atago, it won’t forgive you but if you don’t make any… You’ll have a hell lot of fun :cap_look:

Belfast 43 can be a fun ship to play, the ship does suffer from being a light cruiser = no armour, so unless your fairly proficient at a light cruiser line I would recommend you get some experience under your belt before taking her out for a spin, besides that the radar can be fairly useful in certain use case situations and the short duration smoke can be both a blessing and a curse.

Except she has 15km range and you have to turn within blap range of most BB/BC/SC at least 5 times during an average match so you can go from pushing to kiting as you wont be able to follow the target out just by firing at the longer range as you dont have it…

Only other option is island cover but nowadys having an island you can actually use for that and enemies to shoot from said cover is a jackpot incidence, and That’s provided somebody bothers to spot them in the first place…
