Can RNG stop your ship from getting out of the way?

I can take any of my DD out in the open water and turns circles no problem but I've had ships actually slow down and even stop turning when a salvo is coming. Is there some kind of RNG that if the enemy is supposed to you according to the numbers it can cause you to stop or slow your turning?

It just seems that sometimes the ship just suddenly gets very sluggish when a salvo is coming.

Yes, its called the Stage Fright mechanic, ship crews suddenly freeze in the face of incoming fire at random moments. It more often happens to people who push as a way to stop people rushing in and stay on the borders and snipe.

Uh-huh.... A ship doesn't change speed or heading unless you input the command or your engine gets damaged.

You might have the collision avoidance system enabled.

Ugh, I have that crap turned off cus it was screwing with my ramming maneuvers.

Many a time I've gotten a question mark in chat for missing a ram on a stationary target just cus he happened to have an island behind him and my ship decided to NOPE to the side.

Yes. A carefully aimed volley along with a favourable WG targeting result will 'stop your ship from getting out of the way'.

No really? Did not know that......

Anyway no I have seen my ship come to a dead stop right before it's hit as I'm turning. This has happened several times in World of Tanks and I was just wondering if it was just an RNG thing.

You should pay attention where your fingers are.  Sounds like you are pressing the wrong buttons in the heat of battle.

That never happened in WoT.

Yes it does.

No it doesn't. I never saw such a thing in 25k battles.

Seems to me you may be fat-fingering the keyboard perhaps, or making a stop without realising.

I haven't really played World of Tanks so I can't speak for that.

I have close to 25k battles in World of Ships and I never had my ship come to a full stop when turning / being shot at.

Though i'd give you benefit of doubt. You're sure you just didn't run into an allied ship(wreck) or island ?

If you didn't run into any of these, I think it could be one of the following :

- pressing "S" instead of A/D (some players mentioned "fat-fingering the keyboard", this is it)

- hitting one of those underwater "sandbanks" where your ship beaches without hitting an island (give me some time to find a clip)

:edit:

this clip from Flamu shows what i meant with the second point

Spoiler

How dare you dispute with what he says, he did his own research instead of listening to people with the authority to talk about these things. Ships slow down and stop when in a turn, wake up sheeple!

Sounds like a ping spike. Sometimes end in disconnect, sometimes game resumes after some time.

Since OP mentions DDs specifically, I wonder if it can be as simple as engine / rudder being taken out (maybe also not using Last Stand) ?

If you sail your ships in WOT your post gives meaning :fish_palm:
