Any chance to get a job in WG test department? This must be heaven. By end effect, they must be doing nothing (players will flush any bugs anyway) and still taking salary home I presume?

Apparently this is about the Survivability Expert bug (the links in the first few posts are not displayed correctly and link up nothing for me.)

I finally bought a Marceau this patch and had been getting the impression it seemed strangely squishy, taking a lot more damage than I had been led to expect it would.

Transcribing some of the commentary by way of explanation:

"Normally, parts of your ship have different health pools, and after these health pools run out from taking damage, you only take half the damage for any more hits there. That's why you see the damage drop to half when I shoot saturated parts of the ship. And the gimmick of the French DDs in particular is that parts of the ship saturate much more quickly than on other ships. This gives them much more survivability for the same amount of hitpoints since the protection effect by damage saturation is achieved so much sooner.

But what is going on with the SE captain skill right now is that WG have spaghetti-coded it in such a way that it adds the extra health to every section of the ship. You get x amount extra health on the bow, the same extra amount on the stern, and also on the superstructure, which means that all these parts of the ship are now taking a much greater amount of damage until they reach damage saturation and the protection effect kicks in. So that means that the whole gimmick that gives the French DDs their tankiness, does not work any more if you run the Survivability Expert captain skill."

"And you note that I am not breaking any torpedo tubes or turrets despite hitting them over and over again, because this patch you also somehow cannot break modules for some reason."

"Survivability Expert actively nerfs DD survivability right now. And this concerns DDs from every nation. All DDs and indeed all ships have the saturation mechanic. It's just that DDs benefit more heavily from it than the other types, and French DDs even more heavily yet."

 

I guess it was just a lot more important for Wargaming to rework the audio again and add wavier waves and erupting volcanoes, not to forget brand new premium ships, none of which any players asked for, rather than do the bare minimum of quality assurance, which every player wants.

So, for the slow kids (me!), is it just the French that take a kicking from this bug, or all DDs? I hadn't noticed a drastic problem, but I've been playing entirely non-French DDs lately, and I'm sufficiently rubbish that telling the difference between a bug and me just being my usual hopeless self can be troublesome sometimes...

Btw it was also very strange that I was struggling damaging frenchie BB gun turrets. In da Petro.....

It's all DDs.

Only the French draw the biggest benefit from the saturation effect and thus the bug hits them the hardest.

All destroyers, but Croissants suffer particularly from it, as earlier saturation is their gimmick.

 

And that explains why DD engagements, both on receiving and giving ends felt kinda off :cap_hmm:

The turrets on my brand spanking new Lenin from the Satan box break just fine. (I took Aux Armaments Mod 1 instead of Main Armaments Mod 1 for an experiment.)

Temporarily disabled or permanently destroyed, because thats massive difference.

 

Former is dice roll whenever module takes damage, latter requires module hp depletion to 0

 

Main guns are very much breakable, but torps or secondaries to no avail

If they had any decency, this would come Monday morning with a WG launcher article to a game-wide free captain reset button, allowing all DD captains to temporarily drop SE from their skills, until the bug is fixed.

 

But they don't have a scrap of decency, so my bet is we get absolutely nothing.

At this point anyone could be forgiven for thinking WG staff are utterly incompetent. I am really curious what change to the game cascaded into that bug.
