The funny thing is, it doesn't even do well in that role either. The HE alpha and fire chance got slashed in testing.

British battleships are always boringly squishy. They're always the size of East Anglia, covered in 32mm plating, melt under HE fire and have a citadel which goes from Land's End to Dover.

 

A more interesting Tier IX would have been an actual design, which would have been a better armoured KGV/Iowa analogue; smaller and more nimble than Lion, with fast firing 16 inch guns and strong secondaries.

Seems many people have been playing the ship already 😊 People were always just as enthousiastic about the Roma, which imo turned out quite fun when I bought and played with her. I'll see how much fun Marlborough really is in a month or two.

My first encounter against a Marlborough in my Izumo on patch day:

 

 

 

It was broadside duel at 14km and i was hitting her with multiple citadels and she was only able to hit me back for 2100hp out of a full salvo. Sure, could have scored a much bigger damage if it hit me on the midsection of my ship yet all the majority of the shells from the salvo just fell around me.

This. Everybody is trashing Marlborough, but I watched several streams where the streamers were easily racking up 150k+ damage, setting two fires in every third salvo. This is a long range HE spammer, nothing more, nothing less.

Yep. And the problem in this video is not the ship. If you sail broadside like that to an Izumo, in any ship, the result possibly would be close to that.

I do not agree, citadelling this ship is easy and consistent... can't say so about many other BBs
