The Black is too strong? Being one of those owners of "average skill" that Wargaming are referring to, I can't say that I've noticed. If WG wants to adress real balance issues, they should start with carriers and then move on to submarines.

 

But more strictly on topic, could it be that what we are seeing here is Wargaming testing the waters to see how we will react? Right now they are advertising an upcoming nerf to a special ship (i.e., one procured for steel and not for real money). Based on how that will go down, what will they go for next time, do you think?

WG is addressing Black just because they put themselves in situation where they promised return of the ship which they obviously didn't want to return. And now they have two option

1. to return it in nerfed state
2. not return it at all

Third option is to return it in original state but that is highly unlikely as Black is still a really strong ship. Benham on the other hand was never promised to be available again. Maybe, if WG decide to return it, they will address it too. BTW, there are two ways to get Benham, via grind and via money. Or combination of those two. But it wasn't cheap.

I know, WG is cornering itself constantly yet inconsistantly. Because Neustra, right? ^^ Performs at the same level, but probably of higher skilled players in general that use it. Fek if I know. Also Benham has been available in lootcrates, who'd have guessed XD

 

All I see is Neustra released and Black postponed because 'we must be careful', while ninja releasing broken subs on live, AA breaking RU carriers, etc...

Neustra is strong ship but not nearly as game decisive as Black. Neustra stats are good, but still way bellow both Black and Benham.  Hell, Benham even outperfom some strong T10 premiums like Smaland. Which is just showing how good WG is in balancing ships.

 

And inconsistency is the best word to describe WG.

Let's not be coy here.

 

Black is overpowered. That's the reason (a lot of) people want it. Let's not pretend we're just Black afficionados. Benham is the Smolensk of torpedoes and toxic, but otherwise weak. Black is a strong DD, with excellent guns, smoke and radar. It should not be re-released in its current state.

 

Should it be nerfed for people who already have it? I'm going to say no, even though a nerf would be good for me (as I don't own the ship).

FDR and Stalin have been nerfed already and they were for steel as well. Now Emilio also gets shafted. Basically everything that's not sold for money or it has the disclaimer can be changed.

 

Black is overperforming Neustra even if skill level is taken into account. For example on EU, accounts with 1100-1400 pro-alfa(above average) have 55,4 % WR in Black but 53,7 % WR in Neustra. They will probably try to bring her closer, she will still remain a very good ship imo.

Say, there is a Black on the opponent team. Is it the nerfed black with a say, 6 km radar or standart black with 7.5? Or say 40 sec vs 20 sec etc.

 

Maybe a renaming could solve this but then it is not Black any more, is it?

There will be no renaming. WG promised Black for coal, people expect Black for coal. If WG gave them different ship sure players will take it but it will still demand Black, especially if new ship is not as strong as original. So that would not solve nothing.

The thing that makes Black so good is the radar and HE shells and the smoke, all together. Of course it's overpowered, just like Belfast, because the combination of all of them makes the bundle good.

The weird thing is I sail it cautiously and not agressive as I would expect and unlike other strong DD's. 

 

Also USS Yellow would be racist, looking at the era theme this game has, right?

I dont want Black to return. 

But on the other hand I dont want it to be neferd (ye, Im egoistic here). 

 

IMHO Black was broken OP when it was introduced, that was 4ish (?) years ago. 

Many ships were added since then but imo Black lost its broken status due to giving more and more ships radar. 

 

Dont get me wrong, Black is still the ultimate cap-contester at T9 but experienced DDs will play around its gimmick with ease. 

These days Black is only broken when paired with a Dessi, Wooster, Austin or Radar Mino. But to be fair, good Divisions are always a PIAS, so no news here. 

 

Nerfing her just to reintroduce her leaves a sour taste in the mouth especially when there are so many other nerf-worthy ships that are no longer aviable (looking especially at you, Musashi).

Maybe Black gets away with a "Oh, No! - Anyways.." -Nerf like Kitakaze (+0,2km conceal -lol- )

I just wonder if the present Wargaming Development Staff now have the skills to implement balanced ships into the game, I did read and share a magazine article where WG had stopped R and D and moved some staff, sideways or out of the door I know not but Older ships like Atago etc stand the test of time where as the new stuff even has the Nerf Warning which to me is an admission that they aren't capable of getting things right first time  anymore, Black if it ever does get rereleased will end up a mess if they don't do it directly they will alter something in the game meta to do as they wish lookin at you Flint/Yolo, Care Bear WG? WG wants to change their policy towards nerfing old premium and special ships.

 

Has to be on their minds, regardless of how benign it is framned.

Sorry, but if there is an opposite to trustworthy, WG has proven itself to be it. They could start by balancing subs, CVs and blatantly overpowered silver soviet ships if they wanted to appear more honest.

 

As for Black itself, I grinded SIX ranked seasons for this and now they want to neft it when it's already in the dirt?

 

Sure I played it for a year og two. Certainly broken back then, but times have changed.

Now there are radars everywhere, back then people didnt even have hydro everywhere. DD opponents are far more deadly, and CV reeeeework means CV can strike directly at the DD with far shorter intervals than before.

 

All in all I've not touched my Black for years, except for snowflakes. Kitakaze, Jutland, Benham, Paulo Emilio, Mogador are just much more versatile for carrying games.
