Could someone please explain how i have fun in the Grozovoi

Not that I hate the ship but it just seems very "meh" to me so far. Had a few successful games but I just don't seem to see how it excels compared to other t10 dds. Is there a specific playstyle I should be aiming for etc? Sounds "noob" like to ask but I'm very tempted to sell it after all that grinding lol.

Grozo is a hybrid. Her strength is adapting to the situation of the battle. She also profits greatly from a high point captain.

Am a DD Main that excelled in most DDs in the game but Groz is Meeh A-F. All consumables in the game but still underperforming. My guess, considering its Russian, it will soon become a premium and replaced by a new OP DD like I guess Khaba will be soon.

Haven't played Groz in years because its bad. If you want great T10 DDs you go for Daring, Halland, Shima or Haru.

Fair one. I got the same impression. Thanks for the reply btw. Had a few more games after posting and actually had a bit of fun which was funny considering my post. She never seems to top 100k even when I'm coming top though. I may have to try out a complete torp build for her and see if I can change that.

Running a 20 point on groz but just got Kuznetsov and training him on a Borodino atm. I Will re spec him once he's up there but I couldn't train him on the groz without potentially having an aneurysm haha

Don't get me wrong, she is a pretty decent all rounder, specially with all those consumables. But in the current Meta with all different OP ships like Halland, Daring, Vampire 2, Druid, Haru, Shima she pales in comparison. I have at least never gotten any "youtube worthy" game in her, not even close, while in the rest its pretty easy. She is the Montana of the DD world, good on paper but gets crap on by the competition.

Haha yeah, the Montana point actually really made me realise she has pretty much the same feeling tbh. That game I posted is the first time she really excelled and it felt very much like playing a Prinz Eugen where you feel like you are doing a mediocre job all game and then end up getting a good result at the end

Yeah, that was a really good game. 2300 Base XP is nothing to scoff at. For me its just to inconsistent. I feel its more about MM and RNG when I play it, while the rest of the DDS it more up to my skill what I will perform. And I like to lean on my skill for the results.

Totally agree on the inconsistent thing. Just done the torp respec. See how it goes with that. If nothing changes she will be going in the digital dustbin haha

I really like it. I play it as a gunboat, using only gun upgrades, torps aren't that good IMO. I don't have upgraded range, and i go for gunbuild. What build do you run ?

I'd keep her; at the very least, she'll generate worthwhile snowflakes a couple of times a year...

(I quite like Groz, although there are several better alternatives at the tier; I tend to run her with a focus on the dakka FWIW, although I found the torps to be more useful when I still couldn't shoot straight.)

Honestly, I would say guns tbh. Thats, why I think this torp build is gonna be short lived lol. If I want to play a torp game I use my Asashio xD

Then I would highly recommend Haru, Daring or Halland. Haru plays more like a cruiser while the later 2 are pretty OP in current meta.

built around MB/AA and AdrRush + SE. Im playing about with a torp build now for a few games but got instantly murdered in last game by perma radar... Epicentre...

I think that you're playing it wrong. Sure, it's not the best DD in the world, but i have no problems with it. Try not capping early if there are radars, don't go isolated/alone too. Use the guns to farm damage, as usual AP on broadsides + HE to light up fires and when not broadside

Yup. I think its gonna take a few games to get used to her tbh and you are right.

I have no clue ... I have tried to like the ship (just look at my stats). I simply cannot make the thing to work ... it handles like a bathtub in a sandbox ... no acceleration, no agility in turning ... I have resorted in playing her as a Khabarovsk lite and there I had the most success ...

I dunno...the Udaloi was one of my favorite T9s when I grinded her, and the Grozo is supposed to be more of the same, but with competitive concealment as well.

Instead, I just can't seem to make her work

 

The ballistics suggest going for AFT+FB and a no-concealment build, possibly with an AA twist (up to 7 flak bursts during Def AA), but I still think CE+RPF is the way to go to contest caps...

For me, she's a victim of her own hybrid-ness.

Just bought the Udaloi. I felt that the guns are quite mighty when it comes to DD fights. Shouldnt Grozovoi just be slightly better?

Dunno. She mostly feels like a worse Taskhent with +2 consumables and +1 tier.

143 hits is a low number, you'll only have fun in this if you play her for the guns. (general statement, I don't know how this particular battle went)

 

Her biggest weakness is the gigantic hull and meh handling. Your task is to constantly check your position: do you have viable targets in range and are you safe when shooting? If the answer is no you need to get into a better position, or better yet plan ahead to never end up in a bad position.

 

When it comes to builds there is a lot of viable choices. On the one hand that allows for plenty of different play styles, on the other hand it may be hard to find 'your' build.

For me, the concealment build didn't really work, I prefer a full gun build (bft, aft, fearless brawler and whatever else buffs your guns; I also installed the unique module which buffs guns and nerfs torpedoes.)

 

With my build I don't do DD things at the beginning of a battle. I attack the enemy DD's support (radar cruiser, BB, etc.), just unload on him until he turns away or dies. If the DD decides to show himself I switch immediately onto him. Rinse and repeat until the DD is alone, then go for the cap.

 

You don't have many smokes so it's important to find a way to shoot in the open safely. Most often you will stay near the max range of your guns, sometimes you can borrow smokes or use islands.

 

With a concealment build you can do DD things but you are vulnerable against torpedoes and it's really hard to get out if you overextend. You need to know your limitations and plan accordingly.

 

One more tip: if you see a BB or cruiser broadside switch to AP, they melt really fast if they can't turn.

 

Grozo is fine, especially if played to her strengths. I still prefer to play the Udaloi.
