Lots of Kearsage drivers show too much side.

Although kudos to WG for the excellent balancing of what might have been a very hard to balance ship.

I've seen more than one being played too far back, like a typical CV staying in the spawn.

The Georgia isn't the easiest ship to work with (secondaries, vulnerable citadel, speed is a double-edged sword...), but she's still a fairly typical BB.

The Kearsarge, on the other hand, seems to give some BB captains an identity crisis...

Having CV level of turning circle it's unsurprising.

Also having a whole lot more side to show, and a huge poorly armored, worse angled, area that counts as part of the HULL for saturation (the flight deck and hangar) certainly does not help her one bit either.

Wedgie thinks a BB/CV is the second coming. After all, how can the BBabies complain when they get offensive plane capabilities?

The best thing about Kearsarge, you cannot miss her :Smile_trollface:

So many Kearsarge players forget all about their ship when they take their planes out.

You have to use the battleship section but also ensure it's angled when you go for your flight.

Further, the guns are the primary weapon, some don't seem to use it like that.

Kearsarge can be very strong with the right player.

Not seen a single "good" player in one. Honestly, not one above 51% so it's hard to see how it preforms in game and not stats.

Stats wise it looks like a good ship? Sure some big weakness but also some great strenghts. You can tell its not a easy ship to play well.

Those that play the ISE will have a good understanding of how these BB/CV ships work and its kinda forgiving at tier 6. At tier 9 it is not and I can see that being the problem. Its not noob friendly due to its weird armour sceme.

It's a BB first and a CV second and people need to realise that. You have good usable guns and a great broadside salvo so use them!

Just wish they gave it torps planes, not rockets which are meh now due to the easy of avoiding them in crusiers and DDs. But that could make it too strong I suppose.

I still wanna get it. Any half decent players that have it wanna share their views? Not seen LWM yet..

It’s fun to play her ocassionally, but she did not became a goto ship in my fleet. It’s easy to have good damage numbers, but my battle impact is less than that of a regular premium BB, because I cannot get close and cannot tank. I have more battle impact in longer, balanced games, but we see less and less of that.

For example, I can spot the position of the red team, early in the battle, but your average Saturday team does not care for spotting, they get butchered anyway, while you’re losing a lot of time doing the spotting. Also, I cannot get close and draw fire on my ship, giving our noob cruisers a chance to retreat. It’s an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Georgia (and also Iowa and Missouri) are way different from Kearsarge play-stlye wise, I think. The main problem with Kearsarge in my opinion is how she craps all over Minnesota. That poor dreadnought is not exactly known as a good ship in the first place and Kearsarge is faster, has more health, better concealment, better alpha damage and dpm, can spot her own targets everywhere and even attack them with her planes. She also has way stronger long range AA, which in most cases is more useful than mid and short range AA (in which Minnesota is stronger). Minnesota only really has tighter turning and smaller size going in her favour, as well as a bit more range, which can be compensated easily by using artillery plotting room on Kearsarge.

Discclaimer: I don't own Kearsarge, so this is just an opinion I get from playing against her, as well as stats and seeing others play her. It is definitely no conclusive wisdom I got here.

Why do you compare a premium ship to a grind bumper designed to make you suffer and cough up your money to convert FreeXP? You could also compare Georgia and Jean-Bart to Minnesota, even Iowa or Izumo are better ships. Hizen is comparable, but she was a dockyard ship, another inferior design that you can get for less cash.

What I am trying to do is compare ships of the same tier and class. In this case the American t9 BBs. Iowa, Missouri and Georgia are way different in playstyle to Kearsarge and Minnesota. I got the impression that the latter two are kind of similar in playstyle (again, only by watching and playing against Kearsarge, not playing her myself). Also, in an ideal world, premium ships would not be stronger than tech tree ships, but only different. It kind of was like that at the beginning of WoWs, but power creep has been going on and on and I find that sad. Kearsarge is just one of the more recent examples.

Nicely put and I can see what your saying on all fronts. :cap_like:

High damage, low impact. If your not tanking damage then the rest of the team is and I see far too many BB players sniping at the back avoiding damage at all costs.

I think it's differnt and like you said fun, so might still get her for the coal.

I been playing a bit Kearsarge and i can have my 2 cents here;

- damage output potential is high (Missouri, Musashi level)

- impact on battle can be significant if you using your planes wisely

- squishy, slow big cow to farm damage on

- possibly bugged turrets - one of the turret acting weird in close combat - rounds flying way out of the aiming point in some cases (keep an eye on that please cus I am not entirely sure about it)

- major problem with using this ship as money maker - t9 ship with t7 income ratio :(((500k battles with 140k damage with standard economic signals...my Mushi getting at least 800k in similar condition)

So I have no experience with hybrids, 2 questions:

if you fly your planes, does the AI take over shooting the main guns? If not, you lose a lot of dpm me thinks.

And the self-spotting: if you abandon plane control to fire main guns, do planes keep circling or do they leave?

No your ship does nothing while you fly, you can drive it with the map like a CV, but it won't fire the guns. You have to time it well to fly during gun reload to avoid losing too much dpm.

If you attack with the planes or abandon them, they climb and leave like a normal CV, but that keeps the target spotted for ~3secondes which is enough to take control of your ship and shoot at the target (like a DD for ex)

It is imo not an easy ship to play. Due to the armor you wanna play at mid-long range, but impacting the battle at long range, particularly with norcal shell flight times, is challenging. The planes provide great team utility thanks to spotting. Overall it’s hard to carry particularly in short games - great ship in longer, more balanced, drawn out games though. Good luck finding those.

I think Kearsarge is a:

- excellent ship when it is in the enemy team,

- terrible ship when in your team.

No, seriously, this is an xp donor and target practice...
