Another way of putting it, stuff that is relevant and you can recognize the point of reference, oftentimes that means that you and the performers share the frame of reference, cultural, social, etc. I've noticed that most new 'talents' fail to produce jokes or other material that lives up to those expectations. Mostly they gravitate toward flat, pointless, forced, bland, or just too weird. They fail to grasp any of the points I outlined above. What happens is...
