Hi all,

Have you guys seen the new "Homing Torpedoes" behavior announced in WoWs DevBlog actually happening in game?

Sonar pings and homing torpedoes

The interaction between the submarine pings and surface ships, in particular battleships, was a popular topic brought up by you.

In 0.10.9, we made significant changes to submarines and their interaction with surface ships, one of which was the addition of Anti Submarine Warfare armament to almost all ships, so we need to first evaluate this change's impact on Submarines and other classes. After that, we will return to the issue of assessing the interaction between Battleships and Submarines specifically and determine what further steps we need to take. If the following tests show that the current implementation does not work well enough, we will think about improving or changing it. We don't want to make any hasty decisions at the moment since Submarines have not yet been tested with all the latest changes. We would like to remind you that although Submarines have gone through many stages of testing and are already in their final stages, they are still firmly in the testing phase and we are continuing to work on them and change them as needed.

Besides this, we also wanted to share some details about the sonar ping + homing torpedo mechanic: when a torpedo comes within a certain distance of its pinged target, it will stop homing and continue in a straight line.

The range at which homing is switched off is 2.1 km for battleships, 1.2 km for aircraft carriers, 720 m for cruisers (360 in case of double sonar ping effect), and 240 m for destroyers and submarines (120 in case of double sonar ping effect).

I am asking because I didn't... they are curving all the way till impact as far as I can see... :Smile-angry:

1. They stop homing when they hit your ship. Is true enough it happens sooner if you go towards them :Smile_trollface: Seriously>: have looked, such a thing does not happen. Actually:

2. The keep homing for at least as second despite DCP usage too. from my experience.

Nope they are homing all the way in or else the distance doesnt make any difference anymore which amounts to the same thing...

Typical WG behavior, instead of scrapping the bad mechanic they try to fiddle with it to make it fit :Smile_sceptic:

Why do Cruiser's get the short end of the stick.

This means that if you are playing submarine you try to kill Cruiser's first. :fish_viking::cap_viking::Smile_izmena:

And they can't do much about it. :Smile_sad:

Another nerf to heavy cruisers. 360m for double ping :cap_wander: With the t10 torps speed the reaction time is ridiculous given how bad are the t10 heavies in terms of maneuverability.

Begin viewing from 11:34 clearly see torps curving in like 1/2 km off

U can also have a laugh att the enemy team lineup from 9:01 (2 subs and 1 carrier left alive )

Yes - this what I saw - exactly that - that's why I asked in first place! :Smile_honoring:

My experience indeed. If you don’t have your damage con up, you’re gonna get hit. Impossible to dodge those homing torps. Very very unfun to play against.

  1. Go into the game...
  2. choose any ship...
  3. use that target marker to check how far out 2.1km, 1.2km, 720/360m and 240/120m are in "ingame scale"
  4. ???
  5. winrar! No stopping of ping effect can ever been seen, as them f*cking eels are way too close of it having any effect anyway

Totally dishonest. They are clearly stopping to home after a certain distance. Played quite a lot of sub games the last few days and with good success already but if they would continue homing like you guys are stating I would be a super unicum in subs easy.

Seems like a LTP issue to me... but I get with some more training you'll surely reach the 75% winrate barrier in your Balao.. oh, wait... you got 78% already.... so hey, next goal 80% then, right?

It doesnt matter, unless you are in a DD. In Fuso yesterday had 2 subs on a side, got stalked by both. Even if I had a DCP available the torps hit me anyway.

Yep...that's exactly what happens...they say something...and torps behave in other ways. Skynet is coming!

Hi all,

All is clear now - @Aerroon just posted on Reddit - WG forgot about adjusted meassurements:

Quote

To put this into perspective: a Marceau is ~280 meters long in game. So the torps will stop homing at around ship length from you. I assume it's from the center of your ship. (Or maybe it's from the section that was pinged?)

Can someone from WG please clarify this!

@YabbaCoe

I'm not seeing any homing to be honest. Just had a game where I was pinged several times and when the torps came I just turned my Vlad and ran parallel with the torps and avoided them.

Well that is something only pro gamegods such as yourself can do, rest of us mortals cant sail parallel to homing torps without getting hit by them...

If you are going to attempt at an insult can you at least make it good?

You could post a replay to clear any doubt.

Didnt seem like it in Flamus latest vid of the Rochester. There it seemed like they were homing and curving right until detonation at the hull.
