Which one do you recommend to me? there are a lot of them in shop.

I am happy to say that the Atago, as the first real* tier VIII premium cruiser in the game, is still a good and solid performer. She's got good stealth, decent speed, wicked torpedoes with good firing angles, and her guns are reliable damage dealers. Her artillery is a bit short-ranged these days, but that is somewhat offset by the small detection radius. Her main trump card is that she's got a Heal consumable, which gives her a lot more flexibility and staying power than most of her peers. Her AA suite is nothing to write home about, but that goes for almost every ship in the game these days.

 

I wouldn't go so far as to call the Atago the 'best' tier VIII cruiser in the game though; that is more a question of personal playstyle.** The Mainz, which is mentioned by Captain Wulf Ace in post #8 above, is a far better damage dealer, for instance - but the Mainz doesn't work with stealth and high alpha damage as her main tools the way the Atago does. (I don't have the Congress and do not have an opinion on her strengths and weaknesses.)

 

 

* She replaced the Kitakami, which was - and is - a one-trick pony meme ship.

** Now if you'd asked about the best tier VII cruiser, I would have said the Fiji. But things are less clear cut at tier VIII.

This! If you are good at positioning, picking targets and evading enemy fire in general then Mainz is absolutely brutal (DPM & German HE pen and works nice with Lütjens). If you do want a more relaxed gameplay with a heal that helps mitigate minor misplays, good enough camo and torps to double up as a pseudo DD and hard hitting guns (HE alpha) then Atago.

BUT: They are all not the easiest to play.

I would say:

 

1. Kutuzov - Amazin range and smoke, half decent AA or hydro (not really available any more)

2. Atago - The OG Prem, still great al rounder, one of the few with heal.

3. Mainz - HE spammer Deluxe, shits on lower tiers, decent in higher.

My plan for today was to be only sarcastic or ironic.

 

But actually OldSchool has a point here. I actually think Atago is a good choice. Very balanced even in the Meta we have today (I only sail in the ARP version Takao, but it is exactly the same, and with filters turned on you dont see the fantasy camo).

I like her, too, but I would not recommend her to anyone who does not do well in cruisers in general or in Atago in particular.

That’s a very subjective question given the huge choice and not forgetting some get on with certain ships and others don’t.

 

For me it would be (in order high to low); Prinz Eugen, Atago, D7P, Baltimore and Edinburgh.

Good point! As he has very fine stats in the Admiral Hipper (low games count but nonetheless) perhaps Mainz or even Prinz Eugen would be a better choice that Atago due to increased gun ranges. However I have to point out that the "Lucky Prince's" damage per minute is more on the anemic side...

I can't add much regarding the specific ships (although I like Atago too), but I would mention that newer premiums have a 'may be nerfed' caveat on them i.e. they may be made worse at WG's discretion.

 

You'll get some warning, but it does mean that you aren't guaranteed to keep what you pay for ('global changes' excepted)...
