I've been doing a few missions in Coop the last couple of days, and seen far fewer subs than previously - perhaps we've reached the 'no-one is playing them and we don't want to look like we wasted all that time and money, so time to start reaching for the buffs' stage of proceedings (cf CVs)...?

Stand by for WG furiously lurching around trying to desperately make subs work. On the upside the fact they are having to do all this shows just how little WG seem to know what they are doing. 
 

Still credit where it’s due they did make it harder to shotgun DDs at very close range.

I don't like submarines either, but let's not cherry pick. This is what's changing:

  • Dive Capacity depletion when spotted increased from 2 to 4 units per second;
  • Dive Capacity recharge rate increase from 0.3 to 0.5 units per second;
  • Detectability Range after emitting a ping decreased from 4 to 2 km;
  • Torpedo arming time increased from 0.5 to 2 s;

It would be much more worthwhile to discuss whether or not these changes target what people's issues with submarines are rather than black-painting everything.

Yes its not lost on me. Which is not a buff. Just sayin. However....

I get the impression WG want to try and encourage Submarine players to switch to a more hit and run play style. Getting into position snapping off a shot and getting out undetected. 
 

It will be interesting to see if it’s achievable at least l.

Yeah....just what we need. Another friikkin sniper class not geared towards teamplay. Da brilliant geniuses.....

 

Coz Cv's are not hated enough..... Sigh....

Well blimey, Civilization 6 was on -85% discount today. Have fun with the subs! about €12 for one of the bundles. I wonder if I can even get a single pixelboat for that...

 

what? you said something about submarines? didn't get it...

The torpedo arming time change is very good and prevents exploits. The rest of it is a few tweaks to what remains very much a Beta testing model which has fundamental flaws.

Well, that is quite submarine-ish. Or at least, it's very *torpedo craft* ish.

I just played two Ranked battles. Whereas previously there would typically be one or two subs, now there haven't been subs in either.

 

But of course, WeeGee will never admit that subs are boring to play, just as they never will admit the same for CVs. And so they will keep making the game more boring for everybody...

They don't. I was just killed by that utter cheat in which the sub launches torps, then you dodge, then he pings you when the torps are right next to you and the torps suddenly curve and hit you. 

Total cheating.

That's the one good thing. Fewer subs as time goes on. Unfortunately I expect WG will buff them to put more mediocre players in them.

Civilization is one of the greatest game ever sold, but as addictive as tobacco or Daims, I don't go near it anymore!!!

That is the problem but WG wont drop it as long they want to hold on to their idea of Sub vs Sub combat because that is necessary to work, of course question is why they want underwater dogfighting when that was never a thing, its not going to be a thing in the game either simply because they will be forced to limit the number of subs to just 1-2 as right now Co-Op is a crapshoot and its going to be even worst if they are added into Randoms, imagine 2/3 of teams being DDs and subs with a lone cruiser and the rest BBs.

It addresses the coop issues of bots nobody can shoot couse they are lingering at the max depth and they reduced the faceplanting potental vs charging DDs/CLs that go for the depthcharge run but the core issue - homing torps, they didnt ameliorate, quite the contrary subs can now use them with even more impunity...

If they want it sub vs sub, why do they not limit the ping mechanism with homing torps to subs only?
