Would you want to play more in low tiers and what would be required to achieve this? (T1-4)

  1. 1. Would you like to take out your low tier port queens more often?

  2. 2. Why are you not playing in low tiers?

    • Don't want to be seen as a seal clubber
    • Low population / too many bots
    • Not eligible for missions
    • No special operations or modes
    • Long waiting queues
    • Too low quality opposition (too many beginners / bots) / too little challenge
    • Low pay-out (XP and Silver)
    • Already researched it all / been there, done that
    • Too little variety in ships / missing specific ships
    • T3-T4: lacking AA while facing CVs
    • Other, namely: [...]
    • Nothing is stopping me, I play low tiers frequently
  3. 3. What incentives would get you to play more low tiers?

    • If general missions would apply
    • If there were special operations for lower tiers
    • Low tier campaign missions
    • Special pay-outs for premiums (coal, steel)
    • Improved captain (re)training on premiums
    • If there were ranked seasons in low tiers
    • Special events
    • Special game modes (brawl)
    • New ship lines (temporary grind)
    • Horizontal (within a tier) tech trees
    • Other, namely: [...]
    • Nothing would make me play there if I can avoid it
  4. 4. Which tiers would you like to play more specifically?

What is needed:

  • rework of CV MM on Tier IV
  • availability of missions
  • maybe a further refinement of the beginner protection

Hi all,

This is the only solution IMHO... special Game Mode... easy to implement...  :Smile_honoring:

Yup. These. Ishizuchi is one of my favorite ships, but I no longer play it because of the double CV idiocy. T4 used to be so much fun...

I would like to, the problem is the fact that anything below T5 (hell, sometimes T6) is excluded from the never-ending mission treadmill. Used to be that you could use T4. I think the answer is to have a separate game-mode available to owners of higher-tier ships, in which you can complete missions playing T2-4 plus get bonus resources to make up for the lower earnings of those ships. That way regular low-tier Random battles can still be a kiddie pool for newbs.

I don't always agree with you (and I DO agree more than you think).....but you absolutely nailed it this time!

I don't much care for low tiers. What would make me play them more?

1. No CV (the irony, I know. But I will say, I don't even own any tier 4 CVs, I don't play them for ideological reasons).

2. Captain skills capped at 9 points.

3. Divisions absolutely mirrored.

Not going to happen, so I'll happily stick to tiers 9 and 10.

What the Colonel said, plus:

* Some different maps. The low Tier maps are very "ambush-y". I used to love Solomon Islands but I could do with never seeing Big Race again, and that Z shaped one with the channels up the side for the CVs to hide isn't great, either.

* Some more content - years ago we discussed making the Dunkirk mission available to ships which participated in it, so you could potentially use a Tier IV DD like Bourrasque or Wakeful.  Might make the mode more challenging, and rewards could be increased for anyone bringing / playing in a team with lowbie ships. They'd be viable, for sure, and might encourage people to dust off a few low Tier ships.

As I'm mainly playing co-op, I don't mind CVs and divisions on lower tier. I do have a few lower tier premium ships I like to play, but barely play them because they don't count towards missions. Would be nice if more missions would allow lower tier ships, especially the daily missions requiring baseXP.

So far I have only played Langley or Hosho to regrind a line in lower tiers, except a handful of starter games. I generally dont like low tier ships, because the ship concepts of WW1 and everything surrounding it are just not as interesting as inter-war or WW2 period naval stuff to me.

Double CV games, bad new player protection and the unbalance of unavailable ships you can encounter, in addition to the lack of mission progression kills it for me. Games can be really wonky which has its own spice of fun but most of the time it comes down to which team dies less quicker and/or which team has the more effective CVs.

I enjoy playing HMS Orion (even against double CVs) and yes I do play this level in Randoms.

Just a pity that cannot gain any progress in daily missions or event missions at T4 (usually).

- Ramp up beginner-protection so playing low tiers isn't just a lottery of which team has the most clueless new players who just die in 2 minutes.

- fix CV balance and get rid of 2 CV games.

- ditch Straights from low tiers.

@YabbaCoe @MrConway

Think the poll’s direction is pretty clear already. A large amount of players feels they don’t play the lower tiers as much as they’d like and the main reasons are mostly lack of mission incentives, pay-out, CVs impact on T3-T4 and lacking (PvE) Ops content.

Fixing the above may fix the low player count issue.

Anything you’re planning to address this?

1) Long queues.

2) Double CV games in ships with no AA are a pain.

3) Bad captain xp economy. Most of my strong captains (19-21 points) are trained for T9-10 tech tree ships, and because I don't have many low tier premiums, I have to use captains with 6-10 points. It's not that I can't sealclub with elite commanders, it's that I can't farm free cpt xp like I would on a T6-8 premium or a T9-10 freemium.

4) Low silver/signals payoff: there's no point going there to farm achievements since they don't give signals anymore.

5) The other players tend to be bots, newbies or sealclubbers: it's lacking that "middle class" of decent players that makes the rest of the tiers a smoother experience, imho.

6) I'm not grinding or re-grinding anything at T3. Even though I have most tech tree T10s, there's always some new line with an enticing T10 to reach, or an old line I'm replaying in order to unlock the Colbert, the Druid or another gimmicky ship.

7) No permacamos for low tiers. I have some at T6-7 on ships I like (QE, Fuso, Pepsicola...), so at least permanent captains make more progress there, and it's satisfying. I'd get a nice-looking permacamo for the Sampson or the Izyaslav if they were, say, 400 dubs, but we can't.

8) I kind of played out the low tiers when I felt I wasn't ready yet for T7-8, but now I'm fairly comfortable at T9-10...

EDIT: I would probably play more if I could use a 19-21 point captain at low tiers, but only half his points were effective. That way, I wouldn't have a massive advantage over other players (sort of...), but I would still be able to grind (free) cpt xp. And no retraining required, or only a few thousand xp at most.

The big reasons for me are missions (or rather, their lack) and CVs; make missions doable at low tiers and hard cap CVs to one per team, and I'd be very happy to play more at low tier.

I love the low tier ships they are beautiful just 3 issues to be fixed

-Better protection for new players (avoid seal clubbing),

-change regarding CVs in low tiers,

-allow it to count towards missions,
