Subs in co-op - experiences

Post your experiences/thoughts as per title.

As for me, I got the T6 subs from a random bundle, have done three co op games in them. The subs seem fairly strong against non-dds at least, but very, very, very boring, slow and passive to play, at least in co-op. In general the co-op matches are much longer and probably more boring for surface players, as you seem to have 3 subs per team... So less surface ships to shoot at.

So pretty much as predicted by various youtube personalities :P.

Its great to fight something than you dont see and even if you see you cannot harm at all (met them in GK). Plus another thing to waste already needed repairs to. Not interesting at all.

Played 2 or 3 coop battles ... SS in game? then full speed ahead, shooting whenever loaded, ram opposing BB asap.......no waiting about for sub chasing....battle over in 5 mins or so, 100k plus damage a battle, missions done.

- Watched a T10 sub (german) take on a T9 BB (FDG) bot. After 5 minutes or so the FDG lost 60% hp, the sub ran out of dive capacity, surfaced and was destroyed by the BB.

- My Massachutes (with no ASW) got torped by a bot sub. A slight tab on the D key made sure the torps missed.

- Human sub players struggle to get higher base xp then bot cruisers.

- Played Smolensk, realised I had dept charges, turned on hydro, spotted a sub 2.5 km away from me, turned towards the sub... then you realise the sub is doing almost 30 knots. Took me minutes to chase the sub while not being able to do anything against it.

- "Dive capacity drains faster while detected" -> barely noticable, detected submersed subs can stay at max dept for minutes while being imune to most weapons

- Bot subs go in random directions. Combine this with submersed subs being almost impossible to find (detection range with hydro is tiny, it does not show up with RPF or radar), co-op games can suddenly last 15 minutes because people have to search the entire map to find a bot sub....

Conclusion:

- Subs seem useless with almost no impact on the game

- Co-op is not the place anymore to farm some quick missions (farm ribbons and such)

Tried to use Radio Location to speed up the waste of time it is trying to find them. Nope, doesn't work.

Got a bug I guess where I finally spotted one and was going to sail over it to drop death charges and at 1 km distance it disappeared, like there was nothing there. Being so close I dropped depth charges where I knew it was and destroyed it, but "the sub was not there".

It's just dumb, I've seen the bots subs attack once in 5-6 matches, of course they are equally dumb as all the other bots, so they ram islands and call it a day. They are such a waste of time. Just let players that want to use them do so, but remove the sub bots from co-op, put a DD or whatever other ship, please.

Tried coop to see if my mods are working, took a Shima and just rushed forwards while watching cat videos. With a CV and 3 SS per team there was so little stuff on the surface that I actually sailed right through. When I killed the bot carrier and checked the scores there were still 3 bot subs alive and hiding somewhere. Welcome to 20min coops.

To be honest even after all the experience with WG games, I completely failed to predict their ability to ruin coop of all things.

Played 4 battles in German BBs so far.

No counter to subs unless they are on the surface.  The subs seem to be able to submerge again fairly quickly.

The only mitigation you have is to use repair party to confuse the homing torps.  What bright spark thought that one up?  BBs need to reserve repair party to make sure they don't use it and then while on cooldown set on fire multiple times (or being flooded).   Now we have to use it to avoid 'bendy torps'.

So, in summary: it is as bad as people expected or worse.

I withheld judgement until I could see for myself, but boy, what a disappointment :etc_swear:

Playing in co-op is really boring even for subs, since a battle usually lasts 3-4 min you can't test anything. Would be cool to be able to use them in training rooms as well, so to try new tactics alone without anyone stealing your kills and ending the game in 3 minutes. Will see how it is in ranked against working minds.

Their okay the battles can be over rather quickly, everybody rushing to get the kills including bb's. Their fairly easy to kill only have to get the dc close to them and their toast, will take a while to get the measure of getting the pings but other than that their ok.

Did one run in the U-2501 tier X submarine.

Destroyed  a  tier IX cruiser Izumo.

Got a big fat minus  92.022 credits on a standard account (premium account: minus 77.858 credits) as a "reward".

tyvm Wargaming, that sure is an incentive to play submarines ! :cap_fainting:

Maybe I try again when I get a tier VI  submarine for rent...

Just watching Trenlass play subs on Twitch, pings and fires torps at a dd, dd gets detonated before the torps hit, no problem just pings the cruiser behind and to the left of it, torps dutifully swerve and sink the cruiser.

How is this fair?, and when do dd's and cl's, and what the hell, cv's get the same capability?, along with speeds way above reality

That's T10 coop economy... add to this the cost for all the upgrades if you mount them. Big middle finger for the lab rats by WG.

I  know its co-op, and I know it is Wargaming.

Does not make it "'normal" to me, thats why I hardly ever play tier X anyway :cap_cool:

I thought that with Subs being in game I'd take one out in a training room so as not to look like a A hole ( I know, that would be normal :Smile_sceptic:) in game and to see what their weaknesses were, Should I have been shocked that Wargambling were to Lazy to have made them playable in the afore said Training Room, they're all probably brushing up on their Communication Skills :cap_horn:

Jeeezus WG  so you've managed to  :etc_swear: up Co-Ops that takes a Special Kind of Stupid :Smile_facepalm:

Don't worry, no one is expecting you to be effective if trying out a sub in co-op.

two questions:

1. is there a button to level your sub when underwater , without pressing F or C ?

2. is there a dedicated button for periscope depth ?

Subs in co-op appear to be pretty useless. They are slow. The other ship classes just run out & sink pretty much all the Bot player side before your human controlled Sub can do much of anything.

Subs in co-ops is a really boring experience. Furthermore, who will waste the money to fill the module slots? What is with T6 or higher Subs with no Cpt skills? This is unrealistic.

Why waste any signal flags? Why use any decent camo but the basic 3%/4% one for 22.5k? I've seen both T6 & T10 Subs. I must say the T10 ones look good esp the Ger type XXI.

The future of random in WarGamblings perfect utopia of stupid ideas, deaf and ignorant devs and a company run by accountants.

co-op.jpg

Not just yet, my photoshop skills aren't good enough to replace BB with another CV and any who plays a BB, will be at the back, max range spamming HE, as AP does not do enough constant damage, just in case he sees a sub and the CV will be too busy farming.
