HMS Warspite - A Beauty and a Beast

This ship is not for beginners.

 

You need a good captain (many skills) and specific play style.

 

In short, it is a lot of pain.

 

Search in this forum for Warspite and you will find a lot of articles of people complaining and of people giving advice on how to play this ship.

 

One thing is sure though, it has the heaviest guns for its tier so where it hits....

I've never had trouble. Hits hard, turns on a dime (for a BB) and can take a lot of punishment. To me the only downsides are slow speed, somewhat underwhelming range and it burns like dried out firewood doused in oil in the savannah.

 

Install the accuracy mod, keep an eye out for broadsides and sweet damage away.

I'm averaging about 50k damage in mine, I'm a decent player not great, I do derp things and screw up so it pulls my average down. The main point with Warspite is that her play centres round the glacial turret traverse.

 

It requires fore thought and planning, and maneuvering the ship around the turrets' direction, rather than the turrets to orientate the way the ship is moving.  She's got amazing rudder shift and turning circles, so you can pivot the Warspite round the guns instead of waiting for the turret's to traverse to the target, that maneuverability is what keeps you in a mid to close range fight vs Fusos and New Mexicos. You can turn harder than them to keep yourself angled while they have to eventually give you broadside to turn away or turn into you. 

 

Your guns can't turn for crap, but when you've got some of the best rudder shift times and turning circles, you don't need to sit and wait for them to move. The flip side is if you get out flanked, you're in trouble as your guns are going to be out of position and turning the ship present a broadside or leaves you unable to fire as your guns traverse round to the new target you've pointed your bow at. That's where the foresight comes in, biggest spanner in the works I've encountered with Warspite, once you're blindsided, getting your guns back on target and not taking heavy damage by exposing broadside to an enemy can be difficult becuas you traverse so slowly.

Not at all, the shots are going in very easily from most angles.

 

On the other hand, hide your Warspites when RN cruisers will arrive.

Not more than dueling any other BB. If anything the German ships are quite inaccurate in my experience.

Yes the german ships are good, but the Bayern especially  has truly horrible dispersion and can't hit jack beyond 14km

Last night fired a full salvo at a broadside new mexico from 18km in a bayern, rounds went left, right, over and under and not one landed within a ships length of the target, 

 

Would still rather be in the warspite, especially if I have a spotter ready to go

I had an opponent Warspite in my Bismark yesterday 

As a warspite owner too, I felt sorry for the guy. I even turned my secondaries off out of respect....

 

Warspite has no problems against tier 6 and 7 bbs IF angled properly.

Bismark and Tirpitz are a bit much for the old girl 1v1

With the other T8's you can get her in close and brawl to make it a fair fight, but those german torpedo's means getting close and personal isn't an option with this pair

Once, I did a Warspite VS Tirpitz and Bismarck...

 

Of course, I died. But with the honor of a great fight!
