Any early thoughts captains? Smaller Alaska on tier VIII, I don't know the full specs (no access to comp atm) but won't she struggle in tier IX and X battles? On the other hand if top tier it may wreck havock. How accurate her guns are, it's only 7 barrels. Consumables same as Alaska, strong armour advertised, but is it really?

Why would she struggle?

She is tougher than any silver cruiser on her Tier.

And 7 305mm guns are a lot of firepower for a cruiser.

I've quickly checked some early reviews. Basically a T8 Alaska balanced by low DPM. In fact more balanced than the Alaska, and gets worse match making, so no reason to get her if you already have the Alaska.

because of "adjusted" matchmaking - few people have mentioned that MM seemed very t10 heavy ...

Hence the question, as I mentioned I have no access to my comp until tomorrow, can't check stats. Maybe she is a big an fragile target with very low dpm, facing tier X on regular basis may not be a pleasant experience, tis all.

The few I've met haven't really been much of a threat. It's relatively hard to kill for a tier 8 cruiser, but also takes forever to kill something itself. Just don't give it broadside so it doesn't get to AP blap you.

The MM is not "adjusted". It is the normal Tier VIII MM caused by hordes of players in Tier IX and X.

And yes, a tough ship deals better with enemies two Tiers higher.

Smaller Alaska

AFAIK not smaller, as I heard they lazily copied Alaska's hull and just stripped her off 2 gun barrels.

My thoughts are: Thanks, I'll pass.

Anything named 'Congress' appears to be close to 'dysfunctional' :cap_yes:

Exactly - tested her the last two patches and share the impression.

Not a bad ship, but really no need for it if you have an Alaska (or Puerto Rico, lol)

Besides the capabilities, that others are far better qualified to talk about:

  • She isn't real; what made Alaska desirable for me was that she was real and actually built, unlike this new thing.
  • Like all recent premiums, she's nerfable.
  • Who knows what'll happen when submarines arrive.

We'll see submarines for real in a couple of weeks; I wouldn't buy any new premium ships (certainly none bigger than DD anyway) until we get a handle on the damage done.

One might almost think that an alternative meaning of the ship's name, at least in the past tense, was somewhat appropriate given the current state of things.

Perhaps 'Congress' was felt to be a politer name for a ship than :etc_swear:ed?

There was one on my team today. It was a t6-t8 game and even though it was behind and around the island, went to half hp within first 5 min. It didn't seem like very tanky.

It has same armour as Alaska but at T8, so yes it has strong armour

Thanks for opinions, I wasn't really considering her as a buy, my Wows spendings are much less than in the past (if at all - waiting for subs like many of us, to see their impact on the game). So Congress is a pass for me, I have Alaska.

its an alpha cruiser

Not a DPM one

So it gets outtraded heavily plus 60 second fires. But alpha does compensate somewhat.

It is a balanced ship. T8 Alaska balanced by low trading power.

Or Salem for that matter. And this is precisely the problem with the Congress in a nutshell.
