Best ships for t6, t8 & tX ranked? (4. season, w. subs)

Disclaimer: Any animosity against the introduction of submarines should be directed elsewhere than in this thread (like that's gonna happen.... xD)

TL;DR what ships you gonna sail (ish) in the upcoming ranked if you expect to encounter a submarine?

 

Trying to be somewhat constructive what ships do you reckon are gonna be best for ranked season 4 (if there are subs in play in a given engagement) cruisers are chosen as being light cruisers (CL) thus armed with ASW.

 

- I'll go with T61 & Leander for tier 6. BB I'm not sure about. Izmail?

- At tier 8 I'm looking at Cossack & Edinburgh but not entirely sure about the latter? BB probably old trusty Bismarck due to 2nd and hydro.

- tX is for me the most tricky I think. Halland & Wooster (Mino perhaps?) BB? No idea at all - really.....

 

What would your ship picks be? Pros/cons?

I do hope this ranked season will be a disaster and will put forcing subs into game on hold for some time

I have to agree.  If WG is deadset on killing the game, then it is time to abandon it

as said above: skip it... subs are terrible for this game and wg should see it cause they dont listen....

 

and if you really want to play it.. take anything but a BB... bbs are dead jim (when fighting invisible dds, invisible subs.. and cvs where you only see their planes killing you)

I really don't know if I'm going to play ranked. If yes nothing over t VI. Not worth the time or effort.

Anyway T61 is a good pick at T6

Mainz at T8 or Atago

TX who cares... But I'll pick Moskva or Venezia

Playing ranked just because I need steel and to finish some lines. Subs are gonna be a crap show. Izmail is probably the worst choice for a BB, limited DCP and no ASW. 

I guess it's time for the long forgotten CV lines to be researched

Oh don't worry - even if there is a significant number of players running away from Ranked - WG logic will take over.

On topic - just avoid Ranked.

- Subs will be playing their own mini-game and adding nothing to the actual battle up top aside from sniping un-attentive/slow targets. You may well die of old age/boredom if you play them too long.

- DDs will be overworked trying to duck CVs AND play hunt the sub. 

- CLs will be a bit better but broadly about as tough as a wet paper bag.

- CAs will be sub-food and/or BB targets. 

- BBs will be sitting at the back once they work out that subs are pretty much likely to zero in on them - so the whole thing will descend into a sniping fest.

- CVs will possibly have the best chance of dealing with all of the classes above but you don't want to use CVs. You are a better human being than that. Think of your legacy. 

 

Rinse and repeat.

I think Aigle mostly for the bronze tier since I need to level up my french crews. Should not take long to rank to silver though. Then G.J. Maerker grind and also Mainz

I'm not sure I'll bother with Ranked, due to submarines, but if I do, I'll probably think along the following lines:

• T6: T-61 almost exclusively; we all know how good she is, and if you get a CV, you can at least make him work for the kill.
• T8: Loyang is still an excellent choice, and Orkan is pretty doable (lots of people still can't cope with radar on a DD); if there aren't too many CVs, Cossack is glorious too, and if there are, Kidd is pretty decent.
• T10: Smaland of course, and probably Vampire II; if there are CVs all over the place, maybe break out Halland and Groz.

It'll all depend on submarines though; if their impact is as bad as I fear it may be, then I'll skip the mode altogether.

I think the devs have been clear that subs will be shoved into Randoms no matter how bad they are.

Remember the CV ReWreck. The state of the game is simply not an issue for WG staff. It's all about the churn. From their perspective, if players are leaving, the churn is increasing and that's a good thing. This is the only company I have ever dealt with that hates its long-term, high-spending customers.

If the subs had normal torpedos, it would be very fun.

You would show your skill in anticipation of the position of the enemy, launch the torp an wait in the depths for the kill. It would be epic and fun.

 

But with this stupid homing torp mechanic it's just boring. And ridiculous because the other ships that are later in the timeline dont have them?!

 

It's like the devs want to destroy the game.

A lot of "best ship" choices are going to depend on their ASW performance.....

DDs are gonna be very good here. Especially AP DDs that take the AP skill

I suppose high impact cruisers will be good. Petro good as usual

For BBs, the one which carry ASW armarment and decent high explosive shells. IJN Bbs are gonna be very good becoz they have all that. Haven't seen the new secondaries in action vs subs, becoz I played my sec GK in randoms.

I guess Im going in with T-61. Then with Kidd or Lightning. Wont be bothered with X.
