Keep thinking about Gilbralter. I really like AP cruisers and destroyers But it has only slightly more AP dpm than Goliath and no HE to fall back on

Gilbralter AP DPM: 265,000

Minotaur AP DPM: 600,000

Des Moines AP DPM: 490,000

It does just beat Petropavolosk though but has not much more than half the pen at range....

I'm a little underwhelmed.

Gibraltar has higher alpha and overmatch as a compensation for DPM

I fear the AP might be too broken, coz Goliath AP as a base is not a bad place to start.

I understand what you mean, but I believe that we must separate what is a game from nationalist or other ideals.

If in the game there was the Austrian branch of WW1 and the ships were called Radetzky, Lissa or Custoza should I feel offended as italian? No because it is simply history, is written in books. According to this reasoning then WG should not have used the name of Lepanto since the Venetian, Spanish and Austrian coalition kicked [edited]in Turks... And they should take offense..

Maybe we have explained ourselves wrong.
The Spanish have no problem with a British ship being called Trafalgar, it is a very logical name, it is a great naval battle, the Spanish and the French lost and the English won, no problem.
But Gibraltar is an open wound
Today we Spaniards have problems with Gibraltar
If that powerful British cruiser called Gibraltar had existed as the battleship Hood existed, we would have no choice but to accept it.

But since she is a paper boat with a made-up name, it is absurd for a company like WG to get into a political mess for any reason.

There are other excellent names such as HMS Agamemnon which has been carried by many British ships and which will give its name to a nuclear submarine under construction.

The name for HMS Gibraltar is a very bed choice. It too controversial, would rather stick to mythical name such as: Avalon, Camalot, Excalibur etc.
