Just unlocked Dutch CL C"Celebes." What a PoG

Compare Celebes to Konigsberg. The German has more guns, that fire faster, have WAY better range, and do more damage, and of course the German has the 1/4 HE pen.

Konigsberg also has torpedoes. a much better hydro, and she's faster. The only real advantage Celebes has is a less vulnerable citadel, but that is only going to make a difference against other cruisers, not BB's.

I know powercreep is a real thing and should be guarded against, but this thing enters T5 as what must be the weakest most underpowered cruiser. Not even gonna dress this one up. 🤮It's ridiculous.

TBH the line is kinda MEH, I will keep T7/8 and ships that were built in steel, also D7P and thats it

I think I got at least two of those Celibate Celebrities, and have not even played them once... mainly because the language sounds awful.

I unlocked the thing the other evening, gave it a single run-out in Coop, and that'll be that until the next round of snowflakes etc.

 

I know T5 cruisers are supposed to be pretty dreadful generally, but this one seems to have very few (no?) outstanding features, *and* she's one of the ugliest ships in the game. At least with the T6 you get to experiment with the airstrike gimmick...

I was really hoping to have enough tokens to just buy the T6 and skip the Celebritease, as she seems for practical purposes to just be a slower De Ruyter except without the benefit of having been real. Alas, seems like I'll get them both at once (assuming I go ahead and complete the relevant directives, which... Maybe), so will likely just do the same as @Verblonde

De Ruyter and Celebes, I estimate 3-4 million credits. Dutch tokens, I estimate another 10-12 million. A windfall for me!

Unless you spend tokens on something else, you get Celebes at the same time as Kijkduin, so you can skip it. Still since you can swap captains at the moment freely between Dutch cruisers, I played one game in it. Seemed very fragile, meh firepower, no gimmicks. Very average at most, probably underpowered but would need to test more to be sure. I'm totally expecting WG to not buff it in any time soon, since it's tier 5 so no one cares.

 

With Kijkduin I did surprisingly well in tier 8 game, although I abused islands and air strike as much as I could. But that air strike gimmick makes it so much more interesting ship to play than Celebes.

 

Comparing Celebes with Kijkduin in wiki, it seems that Kijkduin is almost the same, just with air strike and more health. So if they would buff Celebes, they would likely need to buff Kijkduin or else there would be strange drop in ship performance without air strike.

I tried her and found her very disappointing. A weak ship. Maybe the weakest at T5 ...

I took mine out yesterday and the Airstrike 'gimmick' is quite good if you can judge accurately...

Well as a collector I see them as portqueens and snowfalkes etc. But DR at T4 might be played some (real ship). The t4-6 I play in coop as I want 10 p on them so I replaced the 3p with 6 pointers and do some coop grind very slowly - the T6 I want to play to get some idea how the airstrike works.

Compared to other Tier V and VI CAs / CLs Celebes' firepower isn't that bad, and the hull is not as squishy as many Tier V CLs. I quite like it-  the ship is very handy,  the guns are accurate and set fires well (and those DoTs are really important!). Of course you do have to remember to upgrade the ship and not play it stock...

I would say the air strike Gimmick is the worse thing WG has introduced to the game but then I remember Subs (the worse) and CVs (pretty close)

I actually like the Celebes ! Even if for the moment it's like 2/3 of the games uptiered +2.

 

It's guns are imo very accurate, good arcs (not too flat, not a moonshot neither) and HE shells are insane firestarters.

 

As long as you kite or keep bow towards enemy it can take a decent amount of damage.

 

Would have liked torps on them, since they are CLs (lower tiers of the line).

My second battle in her was also a massive letdown....

I find her very strong with HE and the shell speeds and sigma the fire chance is very good and with the range it's a very good kiter (also she is very mobile) and you can easy hit your target. MOst shells you can bounch with your armor (not pluning that can delete you from BB) but if there is cv involved you will notice the difference.

I like the Dutch cruisers. I have De Ruyter, Celebes and Kijkduin. Celebes comes with just a 3 point captain, so that's a big problem. Otherwise it's not that bad. And in the Kijkduin I just had a near 6K bomb run plus fire! I find them all fun to play!

Well, I only have that 3 pt captain on it that came with it... so I don't know if "correct skills" make a difference here?!?

I got the Celebes from a container? I certainly haven't spent any Dutch tokens to access any of the Du ships.

I will keep the 3 pt Cpt & dump/sell the Celebes as soon as I'm able.

I prefer actual historical ships to play - I try not to acquire blueprint or post WW2 ships, if possible (although I do have some of  the fantasy ships).

Hence, I will likely get & stop at the T2 Gelderland - there were 6 in that class & a low pt Cpt on a T2 ship would be appropriate, as well.

I would urge you to pick up Java and De Ruyter as well if you're into the historical ships: they have a lot of significant history attached to them from the dark days of the early war in the Pacific. They go well with Exeter and Perth as a set ;)

The Ship comes automatic if you completed the missions even if you don't want to do it.

Just disband him get a new one for 900k credit you get a 6 point or a 10 point captain  if you buy with a dubloens.
