Yep, I like them because they are fast and the impact on the battle you have is very high. Should be a permanent battle mode with tiers/numbers of ships rotating every update.

TBH, I prefer modes where I can quietly sneak into a corner assured with the knowledge that I will go unspotted and everyone will miss me. :cap_look:

Hmm. The queue. 150 BBs. 50 cruisers. 1 (one) DD.

 

Is this a bad moment to bring out the Yudachi? Leningrad, perhaps? Z-39? what type of game play can be expected in this strange mode?

Expect the usual suspects: Belfast, Indianapolis, Atlanta, ready to radar you from behind a smokescreen.

 

There are lots of Haidas sailing around, but honestly, with most teams playing so close to each other, it's harder than usual for them to do their thing with smoke+hydro.

I've given it a go.  Leningrad didn't go well, Yudachi and Akatsuki did. TRB Shiratsuyu would too, I expect. Haida looks a bit vulnerable to radar, as you say.

 

Looks like radar cruisers are the best choice for Cruiser, although Gorizia was handy.

I am doing pretty well with Fiji.

It's not that interesting a mode, i think. Five games played, 3 wins, 2 defeats, the same tactics played in each, ending with a 5 man Division game (why??), with the 2 man part not really playing against their mates. Won't be taking it further.

I loved the 1:1 brawls, i wish they would be a permanent game mode. 3:3 is ok. Generally i wish brawls would appear more often

Frankly, I'd rate torps over radar for cruisers.

 

I'm crap in these brawling modes, but I've been doing alright (by my standards) in the Zara:

- AP will give you citadels on other cruisers. On one occasion I charged a Nelson and got citadels on her from point-blank: I was in the Gorizia, but the guns are the same.

- SAP can sink a DD in 2 volleys, from close range

- the spotter is occasionally useful

- the smoke is occasionally useful, for a Paolo-Emilio-in-slow-motion charge

- the torps are very useful: you can cripple a BB, then maybe finish her with a ram if it's only the 2 of them and you're ahead on points; you can use them for self-defense against a DD charge; just the threat they pose is an asset.

Got some fun games yesterday, even if winning was rare (won 4/10). All games were against 3 players divisions, which is kinda strange. Lots of german BB around too

Currently playing this mode for the first time because divisions are allowed (using Z-39 in ours), which by the way is both a strength and a drawback of this iteration (matchmaking), and it seems quite a nice mode.  A couple of observations after one day of playing (~15 battles).

 

1) Ok ok, I know the mode is called brawl, however some map arrangements seem to overdo it a little, providing not even the bare minimum space to maneuvere, e.g. two brothers seems to promote a lot of strange standoffs.

2) Considering 40 wins for all rewards (if you do not consider actually playing the game as some kind of reward in itself) and assuming a win rate of 50% will still require a total of 80 games in 6 days, or 13 to 14 games a day. Even though round times are most of the time shorter than regular battles thats still 2h to 2.5h of play per day.

3) Due to the short engagement ranges smoke and torps as well as their counters radar and hydro rule.

4) Do to the shorter engagement ranges captain skills seem all over the place, most probably because people just use whatever captain they have available.

They are very fun especially if you already play in a 3 player/clan member division regular. It would be very nice to see it as a permanent mode but each x weeks with another tier for example just like mentioned above.

I like Brawls, but i'd prefer it if they were straight 1v1's. If you lose its your fault and yours alone. If in a 3V3 2 of your teammates decide to be idiots and die early, well, good luck winning that one

But yes, I also prefer 1:1. It was too much fun with my secondary build Ragnarok to sink tirpitz :cap_rambo:

I've only had time for a few, but it's been fun so far.

 

Most games have been in Scharn, with semi-manly build (because she normally lives in Narai, and I'm damned if I'm paying WG to respec the captain); she seems rather effective for this.

 

Just gave Skåne a run-out (too many BBs mean long queue time); she worked pretty well too, and with only a 13 point captain as well... My 'go to' T7 DD is normally Haida, but I've a feeling the lack of torps might make her a less good pick for the mode.

Skane seems to be a mixed blessing in brawls. They have no smoke and can't face many stronger DDs. Torps are nice. So their success is variabele and also dependent on a decent team.

At times fun, but "skill based" MM is a joke, and seriously, putting two brothers in there where the only winning move is to dash though the strait and see who has radar/hydro/luck is nonsense.

Have been enjoying it in 3 man Div. Usually Sinop/Sharn/Gneiss for BB, Gorizia/Atlanta for Cruisers and Haida/Jervis for DD is the setup we have been using although Indianaoplois seems strong. Wish they would take Two rothers out of the rotation though, can be a bit stale at times.
