Historically it's tough, as the US Navy didn't allow any black people to enlist between 1919 and 1932, only allowed them to join as stewards until 1942. Even by 1949, when the Navy finally desegregated, there were less than 20 serving black officers. I think adding Samuel L Gravely - as a trailblazer - would be a great thing for WG to do, particularly as he served on the Iowa and went on to captain a Gearing class destroyer. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Because the real navies ( all the armed forces in fact ) in the era our ships come from were incredibly racist ? In the US navy you would be scrubbing decks, work in the kitchen or serving the officers as a waiter as a coloured person. In the US army they were mainly truck drivers and there are very few examples they were even allowed to fight ( probably out of fear they would turn weapons against white NCO's and officers i assume ) with the accidental formed black pilot squadron as the most famous example they were wrong. When on peacekeeping missons myself i noticed repeatedly the US armed forces are still struggling with mutual racism and hate : they had as the only nation i knew of seperated white and black bars in the camps. Bars i had to inspect ( as MP ) at closing time as a white person..... Notable fact is the Fiji ( not the ship but soldiers from there ) do not know of black/white racism, but dicriminate Fiji's of indian background or native background......Same for Venezuelans, Paraguyans and Columbians of native and European ( Spanish and German ! ) background. I welcome it all. Just as long as none of them kneels before anyone .OP's question possibly quite valid, though any omission thereof is very likely not due to prejudice. Also as long as we don't obscure things by going overboard on demographics. When I watched the series Shaka Zulu a while back I didn't question why there weren't more white impi warriors because demographically I realised that during this period there weren't any. Representation of the times and demographics more or less as they were is not prejudice and should certianly not be politicised in this game. These days they accidentally trip into a lifeboat handily waiting, no swimming needed. As least they don't come with an annoying voice for the ingame soundbits. I mean... It's not that difficult, in this day and age, to get a proper V/O artist and make things sound right.
