Community tokens - your take on the new currency.

Today with the release of 10.5 we have a new / changed currency the Community tokens.

I would like to share my POV and am curious about other players opinion about the change and your strategy.

Before 10.5 I earned around 800 ish recruitment points a week earning me and my recruit a shareable junior container ( 6 out of 7 weeks)Most of the times the drops were negligible except for a one time Marblehead that was converted into doubloons. Maybe another few times 100 doubloons direct.

With Twitch I quite maxed out my gains which resulted in a Twitch container ( once again small gains), one or 2 missions ( giving some flags or camo’s or some event stuff if something is running). Once again not shocking but ok.

Post 10.5 the recruitment points are converted 1 to 1 for Community tokens. Nothing changes here, my income will not alter drastically. Still 800 ish a week.

Twitch did change. You get an easy 250 tokens tuning in for an hour. One extra half hour gives you an easy mission for 400 tokens more. The final 100 tokens are behind a 4 hour watch which requires multiple sessions. You get a new Twitch container that gives these 100 tokens together with small stuff.

I will get 650 regularly while most of the time picking up the final 100 too.

I am not into testing so that income is zero for me.

Then there might be some bonus tokens here and there, like the 100 we got in the news announcement.

I estimate 1500 tokens as a weekly income to be likely.

So what to buy for the tokens?

1. Double the junior recruitment containers —> drops have been outright disappointing.

2. Upgrade to the medium containers to share with my recruit 2 crates in 3 weeks.

3. The tier 3 premium for 5k -> not an option have it.

4. Buy 3 types of the daily crates ( resource, Flagg and money) for 750 tokens. So 6 crates a week for flags, coal, silver and probably some FXP and camo’s too.

5. Buy the T5 premium container with random drop for 10k. Will take 7 weeks. Reward will be doubloons due to owning all current possible drops. Reward value between 2 k doubloons and 5 k.

6 Buy the T7 crate for 30k. That’s 20 weeks….value is between 5k and 10k . Although KOTS took way longer to get that free T7.

7. Not interested in ( permanent) camo’s or special flags.

With the current status options 1 and 2 are too rng like, 4 giving things I already have in relative abundance So I am opting for option 5. Seeing that 3 x T5 has more value then 1 T7 ( with 3 crates you have less deviation good / bad rng)

I took the spreadsheet approach and look favorable to a free 3k ( on average) doubloons every 2 months. Least rng with the T5 premium boxes imo.

So will you bother with CT? Save up or spend directly?

They got to be desperate in need for new players for this. Also more privilege for those who follow steamers cause wows surely has a lot of "good" streamers. Anyway If I would recommed a game to someone it definetly recommend him some carnage like prototype, dark souls the amazing chest ahead or some alien shooter 2 more carnage and madness and many more but for sure.... I aint gonna recommend him this game that gets worse by the day. Every patch is worse than the other these days bringing more and more annoying bugs, OH and the shells landing short or up bug has not been solved GG"COMPETITIVE GAME DADADA"

The ships they are offering in those containers are sad really sad. At least offer the people to god damn doubllons or flags with special bonuses or some bloody asian camos but no you can get a siroco or the ship made of citadels  duca degil abbruzzi.

No, why would i? Why do you even bother that much with recruitment tokens, twitch, etc? It isn't worth for this stingy company that keeps nerfing every in-game income currency/tools and keeps releasing ships that worsen the unbalanced state of game just for the sake and hope of earning more and more money.

No, you've made it sound like a huge amount of work for such a tiny little reward or a rare chance thereof. The return of value from WG for the work you're doing for them is extremely in their favour. You're going for dopamine kicks and they're cashing in the money. Wonder when people will learn? Never?

This change is amazing just like daily login awards that were introduced a few months ago. Nice to see the game getting better and better

I currently have 2000-2500 tokens and thinking about buying Seasoned and Veteran containers regularly. They are kinda gambling, but cheap enough with good rewards for cheap price. T5 and T7 containers are also interesting, but are very expensive and I dont really want some of the ships they are dropping.

Also, we can earn 4500 more tokens in public test, so I'm going to farm them where too :)

To be fair to WG it’s a great idea and if they had existed when the game came out I would have been in a great place, as I introduced quite a few friends to the game. However all but one have since quit so it’s of little use to me.

So good idea just a bit too late.

The unification is a nice idea and not having to division up too, but ultimately the return is extremely low (purely subjective, yes). WG gain cold, hard currency, while players get a kick of addiction from some pleasure-inducing brain juice, ultimately accepting rather low yields form containers.

If player numbers are falling, then it's nought but WG's fault. I still think WG are being completely ignorant in their refusal to acknowledge the value of veterans...old dogs supposedly can't learn new tricks, but they're damned loyal if treated correctly and there are no greater advocates for recruitment imho. I used to purchase premium monthly, with lots of odds and ends here and there. Though I can only speak for myself, this spending has dropped to tokensitic levels nowadays because for a while now I've come to feel WG's attitude toward vets is lacking reciprocal loyalty.

What WG are failing to see is that they're simply treating the symptoms of the problem and not curing the disease. The symptoms will therefore persist and history will repeat itself.

Actually there is no extra work for the players that already did the Twitch thing. Put on stream, watch or ignore, click on gifts, profit. The weekly mission is so easy you can do it along normal play.

And for the points that you get from recruits: they play and you get 10 points for each game they play. Nothing required from your part. Extra tokens are earned when playing in a division.
So basically  only change is that WG offers more options to spend these tokens. Only testing is extra work ( and so I will not do it)

For me these changes offer me free doubloons to pay for all dockyard etc events that WG throws at us plus some more. For me it’s a clear win. No more effort, more income, more options. Also a bit compensation because I did limit my spending on this game.

I can certainly see your point. Maybe I need to rediscover a bit more positivity..but being a jaded WowS lover has put me in a deep dark hole, haha.

Not actively. If I get enough for something interesting, great, but - for example - I won't actively try and persuade people to start playing the game as a new thing:

  • T4 CV plague makes the 'learning' tiers deeply unpleasant.
  • The recent captain rework puts newcomers at a spectacular disadvantage, compared to old lags, due to the unreasonable cost for a maxed out captain.
  • Submarines: why suggest people play a game that may well change out of all recognition, and very soon too, and - quite likely - for the worse?

I agree that the current way wows is heading to is mixed. Some changes I like, some I hate with a passion. My 2 recruits are friends / relatives and senior players that returned after a 6 months break. And we decided to use the recruit way to re-enter due to mutual benefits. Like free Warspite etc. Would not bother to ensnare new players into this game.

But since my recruits are already there and keep playing and the bonuses from that are expanding, why not use it?

I keep earning 1500 recruitme...I mean community tokens a week most of the time and I'll probably keep spending them the same way I did before: Buying the double crates, 1 for my most active recruits and 1 for myself.

I did buy a couple crates for myself back when recruiting station was new, got like 500k credits and was like "Dang, they probably need this money more than I do" so I've been given my most active recruits crates ever since (and I get half of the crates myself anyway. Only disadvantage is it usually takes several weeks before I can send one recruit a single crate).

Looks like this week won't be 1500 though, but this also happens regularly.

Not really a game I would recommend to any friend, not anymore at least

Was good, did recommend it then, got worse (CV rework) naa, after that I didn´t recommend it to anyone, now with captain rework its even worse and with subs, Russian carriers, Dutch airstrikes and more hybrids incoming, no will deffo not recommend it to anyone dont think I will be playing it much more myself

They can add any currency or reward they like, only thing that could help is rewinding time to possibly before the captain rework and scrapping all stupidity that has emerged in since then + all planned subs carriers airstrikes etc.

Funnily enough it would be possible to make karma possible to exchange for community tokens so at long last karma would have a use beyond being a vent.

Not it that I expect this to happen community tokens are all about encouraging us to bring people into the game.

In general I'm in favour of consolidation of rewards, rather than adding yet more and different ways to do essentially the same thing. In practice, I don't have any recruits I'd be getting points from nor am I inclined to watch Twitch, so it seems like I won't be getting any Commie Tokens anytime soon...

Interesting idea, bad execution as always. I hate the nerf to Twitch containers as a result of this change ... they might remove them now, they are useless ...
