Damage Saturation With Torpedoes:

First of all thanks for making a video about one of the lesser known mechanics of wows. There definitely can't be enough of these.

But considering the Kurfürst you actually drew a wrong conclusion. Because the midsection of a ship can't be saturated with torpedo damage. Doing this on the Kurfürst though actually made me raise an eyebrow, because i thought i knew the torpedo mechanics in and out. Here i would recommend reading this post http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/85475-torpedo-damage-and-you/ from the na forum, which explains it way better, than i ever could.

If a torpedo hits the midsection of a ship it deals its maximum damage reduced by the value of the torpedo belt to the citadel of the ship. You can easily test this if you throw repeatedly single torpedoes in the midsection of a BB, that is not the Kurfürst. It won't even get blackened.

So still confused by what I just had witnessed, I jumped in to the training room myself and fired a few torpedoes at various BBs. But only the Kurfürst reacted this way.

It actually seems to be a bug. The damage is done to the midsection itself, as if it would be bow or stern. The damage isn't even reduced by the torpedo belt. On the other hand it receives the full benefits of a saturated section (damage is halved and it can repair 50% of it). This actually makes the Kurfürst way more resilient to mass torpedo damage than it should be.

So thanks for indirectly finding this bug. I already reported it in the german section. But for showing damage saturation you unfortunately chose the wrong ship.

I have added a few screenshots so you don't have to try it yourself. Setup is a F3 shima.

First shows Kurfürst receiving full 20k damage(ignoring 25% torpedo belt).

Second and third show the applying damage saturation.

Fourth to sixth show normal results on a Yamato, where every torpedo deals roughly 20k * 0,47 damage.

I can assure you that all of the T10 BBs have damage saturation mechanics in the middle of the ship. I tested it with carriers.

A Bismarck takes about as much damage from a concentrated mid torpedo strike as a Yamato. That would be impossible considering their torpedo bulge differences, but it happens in practice. Montana is also about the same.

Well I have conducted further tests and came to a rather different conclusion. Though this time I have uploaded the replays.

The first one shows the point I actually wanted to prove. The Kurfürst compared to Moskva and Montana. Whereas Montana and Moskva take the exact same torpedo damage till they sink, the Kurfürst applies damage saturation.

The second replay shows the Kurfürst driven by a player taking normal torpedo damage without damage saturation. My best guess by now would be, that the damage model for at least some of the bots is broken. I am actually slightly confused though.

Interesting Midway game :)

I have a question:

From CV point of view, what are your thoughts that Royal Navy Cruisers don'T have AA Fire, but can be a hell of a AA ship?

I don't think it really matters. You generally don't want to drop on them anyway since they're so maneuverable and spend half the match in smoke. It's just that their AA range is annoying.
