Play higher tier ships

Use fire prevention, basics of survivability and emergency repair specialist commander skills

Equip India Yankee flag

Take Damage Control System Modification 1 and 2 upgrades

Don't use Damage Control Party for a single fire, manage them carefully.

@ace_maverick_2 can I have you as enemy then? Because my rng is rather zero fires with 150 hits.

EDIT sorry OP,  I just looked up your stats and think your question is genuine.

- Use modules to prevent fires

- use captain perks to prevent fires

That´s all you can do to minimize getting set on fire.

When you already are on fire, there is a lot more to get rid of the fire-damage.

- again, some modules help to extinguish fire faster

- captain-skills also help with extinguishing

- learn how to properly use DamageCon and repairParty.

Do not press "R" as soon as you are on fire. BBs can repair one fire 100%, just let it burn and use RepairParty (usually "T") afterwards. When having multiple fires, you of course use DamaCon. When you get set on fire again, bad luck. Something has to sink you after all. But mostly you can survive several fires and repair (or heal up) a big portion of your halth.

Are you using the modules and captain-perks? You can post us some screenshots of the ships in question.

Game mechanic wise  : equip and select  all modules and captain skills if you feel forced to.

Player skill wise : do not get targeted by multiple enemies*.

*

- Do not get isolated as a lone BB and spotted

- Do not charge a wall of enemies head on ( randoms : each flank has mutilpe enemy ships as standard....going forward with no cover you run into an execution squad )

- Use islands ( real naval warfare didn't have those, but the game has for a purpose )

- Have plan to disengage when you are mass focussed ( slip into concealement or behind an island )

I do not have any anti-fire captain skills on my BB.....yet i rarely burn to death. I simply do not face more then 1-2 enemies and block others with islands between me and them. As intended by the game designers dotting the maps with islands.

You guys (including me got it wrong).

Ignore everything above and accept the correct answer:

"Whine and moan untill WG buffs BBs or nerfs fire chance".

Why would one need to manage fires? Its distracting, too much work and a waste of time.

Did you recently buy this account or are you genuinely clueless?

Might sound simple, but keep moving and if you notice you are getting focussed by 2 or more cruisers, retreat (behind an island or out of spotting distance), heal up and return.

Also be careful about british battleships since they are HE spammers and some DDs too.

Only use your damage control on 2+ fires (unless you are very low on HP already).

And try to shoot in this order DD>CL>CA>BB (yes shooting at DDs with a battleship can to good damage).

Shooting DDs with BB? Blasphemy, to the Gulag! BBs only shoot BBs to maximise damage farming :cap_haloween:

Oh, I do love the moments where a DD thinks he can rush me and gets nuked.

Also, since xp are based on %damage, its actually better to get a random overpen on a DD instead of an overpen on a kiting cruiser.

Actually you can't the first HE shell often (my experience 90%) your in flames even with all the fire protections you can buy. (It's something in the models chance to catch fire which is rather on the too high end)

I hit repair to remove the 1 fire (Never do that the second time!! or you get burned to dead) and your immune for 15 seconds while you run to safety.

This are all the things you need to know.

In addition considering use of the Damage Control Party Modification 1 in slot 1 might be worth a try, especially on BBs that already have a long duration damage control party per default. For example you will gain an additional 8 seconds of fire immunity on top of your usual 20 seconds of fire immunity (for a total of 28 seconds of fire immunity) as long as your damage control party is running on American battleships.

Fires are only a problem if you get shot with HE by multiple enemies, or even multiple angles ( usually high ROF DD in the flank )

Fires are never a problem for a healthy HP ship when fighting 1 ( or 2 depending on what they are ) enemies in front of you presenting small surface to hit.

So the most important thing is to limit the number of enemies shooting you. Randoms are worse ( 24 players ) then ranked ( 14 players ) when it comes to running into walls of enemies that ofcourse can mass focus you. So in randoms your freedom to move foreward is often limited by the skills of spotting foreward recon allied DD'(s) and the presence of island cover.

I would suggest to start there.

You are correct that in addition to the answers about game mechanics there is a lot you can do regarding gameplay in order to prevent excessive fires, i.e. not overextending your ship or minimizing your ships concealment etc.

Staying at range is another means of minimizing returning fire, however the line in between riding your effective range and still being useful while doing so in a BB and having stayed back way too far and thus being useless is very easy to miss, especially for an inexperienced player.

Spoiler

I was about making a sarcastic comment about using ranged module and spotting plane when I noticed that OP was probably looking for real advice.
