Enjoying all ships ( the game ) or choosing WR

How do you play ?

  1. 1. Wat is more important : enjoying the characteristics of all ships, including the "difficult" or "weak" ones or picking only the stronger ones minding your WR ? ( multiple choice )

    • I play all ships and enjoy the challenge of the more difficult or weaker ones.
      91
    • I pick only the stronger ones as WR is important to myself.
      11
    • I would play all ships if that would not block me from entering clans that select on WR
      2
    • I think picking difficult to use or weak ships is weakening my team
      9
    • I report players for bringing difficult to use or weak ships to more "competitive" modes like ranked.
      7
    • I just play whatever ship provides the most credits, XP and FreeXP

When confronted with reports for playing certain ships in ranked another level of amazement opened for me.

I already know some players spam only the choisest OP ship to boost or maintain their WR but trying to influence other players in their choice in that way  is a new one for me.

So i am curious if WG could aswell delete dozens of ships from the game right now. Or come up with an attractive*  game mode where you can enjoy them. Or are there just a few radical players that think everyone must do as they do that are unimportant  ? Or are they perhaps right as it can lead to 1 side having radar and the other side not ?

Not judging players that want to enter high requirement clans or maintain position in the picking order if such atmosfere exists there. Playing difficult to use or weak ships will understandably not do you any favors then.

How free is a players choice ?

* Not Coop, not current worn down Operations if the tier is already fitting.

I play what I want, WR is nice and all but playing an overpowered tool to max out the WR is even more boring and tedious a job then constant grinding of various cr*p in the game ergo I am not going for it...

I think too many forget that WoWs is meant to be enjoyable, a leisure activity.

All this talk about 'grinding' for new ships.....

Playing the oddball ships like Yudachi, Thunderer with full secondary and AP, etc.

Currently Ise is fun because no one has quite worked out how to exploit her weaknesses.

If I want to win then I've got Enty, Al Yukakazi, Jingle's Cat, but often that's too stressful it's not fun to be "I have to win this one" or constantly stressing about "will this affect my WR?".

Nobody is going to die if I screw up in WoWs, so why get stressed?:cap_cool:

I play want I want, I do a lot of regrinds meaning that I play several weaker ships. I want variety in my play. My account and WR are so old so focusing on that is meaningless.

I also play a lot as I grind or lot and try to focus on best performance parts of the sessions f.e. when I play ranked.

I however always try to win, not going mid at the start at Two brothers f.e..

The first option for sure but neither of those is exclusive as I get that most WoWS veterans prioritize WR and are choosy about what ships they play/ grind.

As for me,  I have more fun when I'm frequently switching my playstyles between CL, DD, or BB  which varies w/ mood.  WR, I never really bothered with it but I know it's awful and I don't really care as I was waay down at the bottom and it took me a while to climb up the ladder to get where I am now and to familiarise myself with different ship classes and their weaknesses but I like ranked as well (or I did, before the T-6/7 bronze fiasco) because I've learned a lot from them so that more teamwork is involved when working towards a common goal...which is gaining a star (obviously!)

It guess all comes down to how seriously you take this game. Beating yourself over for a consistent WR doesn't necessarily mean you're having fun. If chasing WR becomes a priority, then you might need to make some sacrifices and give up playing certain ships and avoid other things that you like doing...such as giving up hydro for DFAA because you just want to see them flies drop but your team ends up hating you because you can't help them spot torp soup.

That said,  I think it's safe to say that those with the highest karma or MVPs gave up a lot of fun elements to get their prestigious Unicum status.

In ranked, I try to choose the ships I am best with. Unfortunately, no such ship exists on Tier 6/7 :( (at least I dont have one).

In random battles, I tend to play all ships I have. However, part of the fun comes from performing well, so if I really suck in a particular ship, I stop playing it after a while (Naevsky would be such an example ^^)

Playing powerful ships is enjoyable so I guess both..?

I don't grind for ships I consider weak. The only time I forced myself to a situation like that was when I grinded Bronze league with Strasbourg only, which wasn't really a pretty challenge, but one I managed to overcome in the end.

@Beastofwar

hey mate. Nice to see you again in the forum.

Sorry mate, I ll be laconic here.

The poll is biased. It is as wrong as a poll can be.

I am really to lazy to elaborate. I am sure other friends here will spend the time.

As far as being reported for bringing a ship that someone does not agree with (and I think this is the essence of your post/poll) I put it in the same bag of the reports you get for sinking someone. The bag of nonsense and idiocy. Please don't act as if you don't know who is who in our playerbase.

Salt

Well its his thread and by so he can make it whatever he wants to.

I myself don't play weak ships / or stock ones for that matter. Its not so much wr that matters to me, but the fact, that I am putting myself at disadvantage.

I disagree. Playing well and carrying your team can be a ton of fun, at least for me. And it's not like I only play "meta" ships, i try new stuff from time to tim but obviously prefer the ships that  I perform good with (GK <3). Nothing feels better that knowing that YOU were the reason your team won.

What is more important: enjoying the characteristics of all ships or abusing the power of the CV class to push your overall winrate over 50%?

Also, it might look dishonest to talk about stats while keeping yours hidden. Either you care about stats or you don't, please decide.

i'd argue that performance on ships is individual, the question if one can play out it strenghts or not. thus, the player makes the ship, not the ship the player. conclusively any answer here on the matter is highly subjective?

Beyond generic ship type strengths / weaknesses, I have zero clue about specific ships strengths / weaknesses - unless you count the old "GK or Kremlin tank well"? Not even an idea what consumables or upgrades I've got before playing, nor does it factor. Just realised I've done 3 matches in Montana with 3 upgrade slots empty as I was going to reset the line once more for research (enjoy US BB line) and I think one of those upgrades is not coming back if I reset the line so didn't equip it (and the last upgrade costs 3m, so if resetting the line near immediate seems pointless).

It's a game, a way to pass some time. Play whatever ship I want with zero care for how well I do in them as it's likely my (in)ability rather than ships over-tuning that'll determine outcome (though things like Hood, Scharnhorst, Yamato, Nelson and Bismarck are down to historical reasons - i mean, they're the Hood, Bismarck, Yamato and Scharnhorst! Meanwhile, I find the Dunkirk or JB are both fun but near everything else I have or do play is just to grind through the lines as I've recently been persuaded to try research points. Maybe I'm terrible at it all, who cares.

So no real option fits I think?

*edit* Actually, my finger does hesitate whenever hovering over the Duke of York and I do ask myself "are you sure..." :D But that's the only ship. Honestly, it feels like it's always -T2 though and that's the reason.

I play to win, meaning I try to play the battle types objectives, so my WR is about 54%, but my PR is low because farming dmg is a secondary consideration.

Also I rarely play to complete mission objectives, but I will occasionally pick a boat to complete a mission if I need too.

Dude, just checked your stats. You have a winrate of 72% in Solo with "only" about 2200 PR average in the last 125 games. That is pretty impressive. How do you do that? Whats the key for achieving such a winrate? ^^

Dont get me wrong when saying "only" 2200 rating, that is quite good of course, but I thought you need more to carry a team to a almost certain win. Seems that you are a really good at supporting the team.

As if you can get into the top clans based on a WR in only OP ships...

I play the ships I like and purely for fun, some are good ships others just mediocre but my selection is based on what I like not stats. For me the enjoyment is in trying to get good in all of them, one day I might even become competent in most ships - I hope.
