I was browsing the web as one does and came across an interview the CEO of WG gave to mark the 10 year anniversary of WoT...

In the interview Victor says WG view WoT as a hobby that people partake and invest in. Looking at how things are developing in WoWS it pretty much looks like WG have the same take on WoWS.

So how do you view WoWS?

Personally for me it's a game within the hobby of PC/Console gaming that I engage in.

Interested to see what others think.

Both?

A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area. A list of hobbies changes with renewed interests and developing fashions, making it diverse and lengthy. Hobbies tend to follow trends in society, for example stamp collecting was popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as postal systems were the main means of communication, while video games are more popular nowadays following technological advances.

Since the advent of MMORPGs during the early 2000s I do consider everything with a monthly subscription and a lot of time consumption as a kind of hobby. And while open monthly subscriptions are less and less common I do consider things like premium time or micro (or even macro) transactions a monthly subscription that for a hobby I am willing to pay.

A bit of both tbh. While gaming is one of my favorite hobbies, I don't like it when the 'game' I'm playing to kill time becomes too much of a chore  (ie. current Ranked in bronze)

That said, I don't mind grinding for in-game rewards as long as it's fun and doesn't wear me out.

My last game, Cyberbugs 2077 was just so visually unattractive with forgettable plot/characters and cringe-inducing dialogues that made me quit early. If it were a hobby, I'd still be driving the bug-ridden Madmax-esque phantom cars through the wall and into another dimension that is only known to CDPR devs.

A bit of both; the basic 'driving ships about and blowing :etc_swear: up' stuff is just a game, but the more extensive community stuff, such as Clan involvement and the forum community make it at least partly a hobby, for me anyway...

WoWS is definitely a game I play within the hobby of Computer Gaming that I enjoy. I tend to dip in and out of WoWS, depending on how I feel. When I get to the point that it feels like a job, I take a break and go play something else.

My biggest hobby is naval history. Playing WoWs is part of that hobby.

I'm a commander of a clan full of history buffs, hence WoWs is just one game in the genre of naval combat and general historical combat games played, as well as light hearted stuff like Golf It and Among Us. WoWS brought us together as a community for which I am grateful.

A hobby: The game itself, engaging with the community, the people I've met and befriended via the game, some of them I even met in real life.

Fat, for a not native english speaker..Don't get the difference between the 2 options. For "It's a game that I play" do you mean "It's a game I play alongside others with same importance"?

With "hobby", instead, you put to the same level of collecting stamps or fishing?

Both options are not related to "play to win (studying rules, tracking stats, etc) / play for fun (do not care of rules, stats simply entering in game to sail and see guns make boom boom), correct?

Are you by any stretch of imagination suggesting that WoWS is anywhere near as 'fun and engaging' as stamp collecting? :Smile_trollface:

Hi Aetius, sorry for the confusion. And yes option 1 should be read as Its a game I play along with others and I view them with the same importance. Option 2 it's a hobby, as in WoWS is basically the only game or most important game I play and I treat it like a hobby investing more money into it than I would if I just thought of it as a regular game.
