So the auction is now live in the armoury and I've just seen a streamer bid 240 million for the 100,000 coal, starting price was 25 million.  So that's nearly a 10 fold increase in the price of coal; wish I bought shares in coal.  So as a money sink this is definitely working out for WG.

I wish I could bid coal for credits, which do actually have a use to me.

So if we follow a presumed logic that all those who are sitting on 100s of millions of credits are going to splurge all their money on say the first 3 to 4 auctions buying up coal then in 3/4 weeks the bidding price will drop like a stone back down to the 25 million range.  Right?

No.

So many players have huge credit reserves there are way more players than auction lots.

Yeah, but it'll only be for a 1000 doubloons.  :cap_cool:

Add 2 zeros to the end of that and you will be closer to the mark

With an auction every 3 days over 4 weeks that's @37 auctions and if you're spending a 100 million a time that's nearly 4 billion in credits and there can't be that many players who are sitting on 4 billion credits

That's only if they do coal as frequently as you're suggesting - all it currently proves is how weak / impatient people are to earn coal that they're so willing to commit vast sums of credits on the bid - and yes, their very predictable answer is 'well I have a lot of unused credits, bah blah' - same ol same ol mundane excuses, lol. I guess we all like to justify our decisions one way or the other, so long as it doesn't make us look weak. :Smile-_tongue:

During 0.10.4 there is only one round of Auction, basically the one you can see in the Armory now.

Also, so far we haven't announced, when there will be next auction, yet.

Why Småland, when you can have a better version with the Ragnar soon?!

Ragnar will have the "if deemed necessary, balance changes may be applied" statement in the small print when it comes out, whereas Smaland is now relatively immune I would think.

I cannot wait to see the community create their own hyper inflation issue with this auction as some people will just go silly.

On another completely unrelated note I guess I better start playing my Missouri a lot more.

I can't wait to see WG put up Missouri or some other ultra rare ship for gold.

We all know it's coming at some point.

The question really is who will be brave enough or stupid enough to actually speak publicly about how much they paid.

The auction is like a prisoner's dilemma, if players help each other, the price will go down, but if there is a price competition, you will definitely pay more for it. In fact, I've seen players on the Asian servers already bidding 1 billion.

Smaland is a 'special' ship (rather than a 'full premium'), so I think she's liable to nerfs anyway...

this really does not tell anything more than the person in question has this amount of credits ...

you can change it later or remove your bid completely
