Damage Caused to Allies

In Update 0.10.5, we are disabling the ability to cause damage to allies. This change will have a positive impact on gameplay—your teammates won't be able to damage or destroy your ship now.

Main changes

  • You can no longer damage allied ships, disable their modules, cause detonation, or destroy them. You can't damage allies by ramming them either.
  • At the same time, all armament types will still hit allied ships. For example, you won't be able to launch torpedoes at an enemy through an allied ship.
  • A warning for unsportsmanlike behavior will now be issued for a certain number of hits on allied ships with any armament type, except for secondary battery hits. You can now be issued a warning for unsportsmanlike behavior only if you hit allied ships with torpedoes and main battery shells 15 times or more.
  • If you continue to break the rules, you will be banned from all battle types, except for Co-op, Clan, and Training Battles.
  • Additionally, you won't earn any Credits or XP for any battle in which you receive the warning for attacking your teammates. If you don't break the rules in your next battles, any resources you earn will be credited to you as usual.
  • The return damage that a ship receives as a penalty for hitting teammates will grow with each subsequent hit on an allied ship.
  • Camera effects that indicate incoming damage won't be active for a ship that is hit by an ally.
  • The warning about allied torpedoes has also been removed, since they can no longer inflict damage.

Just to double post with a serious answer

Make torpedo hits count for more hits that gun hits - dd can throw you alot of torps
Secondly i would like to have the friendly torp sound and marks on UI to active cause sometimes someone is just trying to help you and having that opton active or maybe putting it in settings of the game can be useful in the fight not all friendly torps are meant to harass you.

Damage to allies has been disabled for all battle types.

I'm not on playtest, but I'm struggling to understand why, when you can't in any way, shape or form, damage an ally (1, 2), you'd get unsportsmanlike behaviour messages for hitting them whether by accident or on purpose (3). After all, you just removed all incentive to take care of your allies, since you do it for them by removing any negative effects from getting hit.

Point 4 and 5 seem excessive, 15+ hits can be two salvo's for some ships. I'd advice making this dependent on the RoF and amount of barrels firing in a salvo. Some ships have 12 barrels and if someone sails in front of you while you're in zoomed out mode, this can cause such hits. Sustained fire could be a form of harassment, so I'd look at the amount of shots that continue to hit after the first in multiple salvo's, rather than a total amount. I'd also be very careful about providing "return damage" for damage one is not actually dealing. I'd much prefer there to be an automated muzzle on these ships, that stops them from firing temporarily as a penalty.

The only thing missing a warning for under these rules, is blocking an ally's path for a prolonged period of time, or pushing ships into harms way. As you don't take damage for it, it could be a far worse harassment tactic. Duration of pushing an damage taken from enemy fire during this time might be worth pinky status.

Points 7,8 are situational awareness indicators. It gives you notice that an ally is attacking an enemy, or that you might be blocking the line of sight of an ally in your current position.

Very convoluted and hard to test, in my opinion.

What I like:

- no damage to the target of friendly fire;

- damage reverted to the aggressor;

- you can't shoot towards a friendly to hit an enemy behind it;

What I don't like:

- when it comes to torpedoes, the line between willful friendly aggression and accidental/panic hit is quite blurry; slower or very-long-range torpedoes are not fool-proof and accidental hits can happen, so... I don't really know how to deal with that;

- the XP and Credit penalty is too harsh, in my opinion, in case of accident. What I suggest is that the XP and Credit loss increases with repetition. Setting it to zero during the entire duration of the initial pink period (2 or 3 battles) is too harsh for the player that did it accidentally. Sure, give even the accidental hit the pink color for 2 or 3 battles and reduce its gains by 30%, but not to zero. Continued active aggression? Ok, remove another 30% and extend the penalty to 6 or 7 battles. By the third time it is zero and possibly 10+ matches or a temporary ban. 3 strikes with increasingly harsher penalties, basically. Fewer rewards, for more battles, the more you try to hurt friendlies (also actually absorbing the damage you tried to cause).

Also, consider making penalties proportional to Tier!? Maybe? In other words, lighter penalties to lower tiers (where players are still somewhat new to the game, in theory at least), so check your stats and data beforehand, just in case. Just a thought.

This no friendly dmg is just silly, this game is rapidly becoming just as irelevant as WoT. Panic before closing time?
