Torpedo ricochet: should it be a thing??

We already have shell ricochet angles so why not the same for torpedoes too. It is perfectly plausible to bounce torpedoes off a hull if the angle of incidence is sharp enough....

How about..no. Torps are tricky enough to use as is.

Sure why not? Although in return I will have to ask for magnetic fuse and draft so no more torpedo beats or island camping.

Solid no.

Playing more into BB hands and it's hard enough to land torps with the crazy amount of hydro.

What I don't like about torps is the damage reduction system:

- if you don't expect them, you'll probably take them on the broadside/torpedo belt: sure, it's less damage each, but it generally means you'll take several and sink, often in a Dev Strike

- if you angle correctly and only take them on the bow or stern, you take extra damage because they're not covered by the belt. Floodings are also more likely, as I understand.

Basically, the game gives you an often useless defense when you screw up, but punishes you more if you do everything right.

Granted, that seems to be in line with historical reality, but taking massive damage from torps on the bow is annoying. They might not count towards citadel damage, so you can heal more of them, but still...

Anyway, no, I don't think this would work.

It's hard enough already for DDs to land torps, and the bow is often all they have to work with.

Especially hard if you're launching at range, you don't have the luxury of picking the best angle 9 times out of 10 in that situation.

I was convinced they did ricochet or had a small chance to misfire. I've had torpedoes seemingly hit my hull and do no damage. I guess what actually happened is they reached maximum range less than a foot away from my ship.

I've felt much luckier since realising that.

The torps are already odd enough (like not scratching the launching ship even if they explode within an arm's reach, or exploding if you hit their rear end while swinging your ship around...).

No thank you. Torps bouncing of your target is just adding insult to injury.

They arm 300 meters away.

Simple answer is NO, don´t complicate things

Although I am sure that IRL early torpedoes could deflect if angle was shallow enough

Also sure that more advanced torpedoes would have magnetic detonators etc.

If you make Torpedoes more realistic and let the early models bounce, then give ships realistic rudder shift times, aka 50 seconds on BBs. Let´s see how they dodge then. And after they lost 60% speed in the turn, then they will eat the second spread with no issues.

That would also buff German ships. Magnetic detonators - no ricochet. Americans implemented them also during the war. Post-war ships like Halland also carried "magnetic" torpedoes - which even went after their target if it changed course.

Electric propulsion on torpedoes also was a nice thing, quiet, no bubble-trail and you only notice them when they blow up - below your ship.

or we don´t make it that complicated and leave the system as it is; the torp hits - the torp blows up.
