Dying? No, for that to happen this genre misses a serious competitor.

What makes you think it's dying? I don't get that impression at all.

Not so soon, but ex. our Polish forum which was very active about two years ago is almost already died, so my opinion is that the process of game ending is in development.

I don't think the game is dying.

There is some fluctuation in player numbers but nothing really unusual. The average player count remains roughly the same, you can see increases during holidays and events like CB and decreases between these events/times. Same as always.

The quality of the games is decreasing, yes, but I don't think that is a reason to assume the game is dying.

However, some communities (like the mentioned Polish community) may become smaller or less active. I don't have the numbers but I can see two possible reasons for this: 1) these people really quit the game 2) they switched to another language (for example English) that is more active.

At least the German and English forum is even a bit more active than a year ago, at least it feels like that.

But even if the numbers would decrease a lot I don't think they will shut the game down soon. Just have a look at WoWp, that game has been dead for years and they still did not shut it down. So there is no reason to assume they would shut down WoWs immediately as soon as the player numbers drop a bit.

Not dying just stagnant,  ps poor from the WG management down to the influx of bad players. It won't be shutdown so long as it's making money and always new whales to milk even if they leave after a few months.

Alas. I always really wanted to like WoWp. But they focused on the wrong time period and managed to make the class interaction so inflexible it just got predictable, especially at high tiers. WoWS is a much, much better game.

I personally witnessed Navyfield's slow demise but its last breath came very sudden with the introduction of WoT beta. It's very strange that an online tank game literally attracted the whole playerbase of a naval game. WoWs is nowhere near that level and there appears to be no new genre-defining-game to finish the job.

I think the player base is shrinking, but will it be shut down anytime soon no.

When I remember the last numbers, the player base (matches on server) is very stable over the last years.

However, when you look at this board only, doomsday is comming! ;)

Looking at WG annual revenue is probably a good indicator of their longevity.

Personally, I feel that the fun factor is reducing. Mainly due to CVs. I think Subs will be another fun killer (fun for the people who play them but nobody else). I used to recommend this game to other gamer but not anymore which is a shame.

But the game is free to play and that is always going to draw people in.

I don’t believe it’s dying however it’s certainly not going in a direction I’m very hopeful about. WG over the past two years do seem to be trying to see just how far they can push the community, and see how far down the micro transaction route they can get away with.

What will be a really interesting to see, will be when subs are brought out. Given WGs track record I’m exceeding pessimistic about them and they may well push a lot of people away. However to be fair there are a very vocal group of people who are adamant that subs will bring lots of people in. Only time will tell.

It's obviously not going to be shut down. The devs have stopped making improvements to the game in order to change the maps so they can accept subs -- we cant get so much as one new map, because a billion dollar firm is too cheap to spend a few bucks to hire a developer to focus on that. LOL.

Subs will cause immense damage to the game, and like the CV rework, many good players who love the game will leave. The devs are betting on the churn, so they will let the game go on because they have invested in another gameplay-killing mechanic, subs, and can't admit how stupid that is. THE CHURN IS ALL!

Lots of new players and existing players will buy subs, though, I've seen many comments on the forums and in game about how players can't wait for subs -- nobody likes CVs, but subs by contrast have a constituency. You know that kind of mediocre player who likes hitting others without risk to themselves, they are already invested in CVs -- that's the player WG caters to. They will adore subs.

Since they do not play the game, and do not care about playability or enjoyability, the devs will be perplexed when the playerbase finally gives up, especially the veterans. But to kill the game would be a public admission of how badly they have hurt it with the idiotic CV rework, the commander skills rework, and subs, and so many other changes over the years, and the constant refusal to make QoL changes, provide new maps, etc -- and they will never make that kind of admission.

So I expect we have a few more years of them harvesting the churn. There will be something out there called WOWs, which will suck, but the churn will probably keep it alive.

Sad, when you think about what this game could have been.

THE CHURN IS ALL!

Player numbers are stable and have been for years. The only significant growth the game has experienced was during the ongoing pandemic which led to an increase in player numbers and revenue for the entire industry, not just WoWs. Those numbers are starting to slowly decline back to the usual values as restrictions are being lifted and vaccines rolled out.

Honest answer to your question: no the game is not dying in terms of playerbase. The overall playerbase has been quite stable since launch. More importantly their most important server (EU) has an increasing playerbase. So yeah.

Wg wont listen anyway to players

Then why this poll if WG won't listen to us? (as we know they don't anyway)

But to answer the question, no I don't think the game will die, playerbase might get lower but I don't think it will die, what can they do to improve the game, design more maps, bring back (even if only on temporary offer) ships that have been removed, maybe have some new modes or operations for differing tiers.

Game is really sinking slowly.

It will not die, but if WG keeps going like this, in 1-2 years it will became another WoWP game, with 1-2 human players in a team, and the rest filled with bots, on all tiers, like it is now on low tiers.

Is that WoWP still running on WG servers?!

Dying - yes, dead - not just yet and it wont be shut down any time soon... I mean WG is kinda attempting to at least pretend they are taking a new direction (leaving the opening for balancing all future premiums for instance) but the problem is they base the entire game developement on escalating the "microtransactions" more and more and that alienates more and more of the playerbase, subs will likely bring a short burst of life when they cater to the laud weekenders yelling for them, adding subs will keep their interest for a few weeks/months and then the game is going down the WOWP path as most veterans will have left at that point and the weekenders will find some other game of interest as always...

As all to often a great idea getting ruined by beancounters and poor management decisions

Reminds me of a combustion engine that has run out of gas, and the owner resorts to throwing anything in to the fire he can get his desperate hands on - coal, furniture, paper, dead bodies, but the end is inevitable.

As long as there are the mega-whales that buy any crapp that WG throws at them (and there seems to be a lot of them), WoWs is doing just fine.
