Consider this:

1. Don't shoot at islands. Costs you credits.

2. Learn the range of your guns.

3. Learn the range of your torpedoes.

4. It's your torpedoes. YOUR responsibilty.

5. Don't die.

6. Use the key W

Anymore tips ??

EDIT: added number 6 - The W key ! As suggested. A useful key in the game.

Don’t play for grinding, play just for fun.

Don’t pay neither with your money nor with your time.

No need to use hydro within the first 30sec of the match - oh wait that happens at T10. Nevermind

Try your new ship in coop a few times before going into randoms.

Hit the 'w' key, battleship captains. It has surprising results.

Except for British light cruisers, you can change shell types.

Try all lines up to T5 to see which ones you like. Grind those first.

Unless you are on VERY low health, do not put out a single fire on a battleship.

Hummm..

Top 3 tips after 6 years:

1) Knowledge is power. The winner (in any one vs one engagement) is the one that not only knows his ship inside out, its strengths and weakness, but more importantly the enemies too.

2) Always play to your ships strenghts, not the enemies.

3) Unless you personally know them or div NEVER relay or build a plan on anyone, because they are more than likely incompetent.  Instead of thinking "he should kill him", think, "when he doesn't kill him what do I do next in order to kill him".

So research the game, don't relay on teammates and play to your strenghts.

Then some smarta** DD comes here and starts crying about being pushed out of smoke by a big bad BB. As if anything else could happen after using W...

Requires thinking about angling. Just pew-pew happily causes significantly less stress.

Actually it's a pretty simple game. You can't join them, so you have to beat them. Or at least have fun trying. If you find yourslef complaining more  than having fun - change the game.

Oh those Nurnbergs torping 12km away targets behind DDs...

Eh this is more for high tiers cause the amount of passive games is beyond depressing.

One of the few times that happened to me was when the BB had used auto-pilot instead. At least he apologized for it. :Smile-_tongue:

Good tips all around guys! Hope a few new beginners find this thread. These are the kind of things you learn from the older guys at a new working place, and NOT from the manuals.

Youtube is all well and good with Flambass, Trenlass and the others, but there's a strong focus on Tier 10. I'd like to see some statistics of how the players spread out thru the tiers in reality.  I suspect the majority plays in tiers 5 - 8 (?)

And, as someone here already said, to be REALLY good you have to learn all the ships.   That means you have to play all of them.

I'm not a really good player...... :)

Fittien dolla?

When you think you teammates wont sail into the torpedoes you lanched while sailing behind them, they will.  <- another free sample

Edit: So dont launch those torpedoes k?

Minimap awareness!!!

Surrounding awereness!!!

strategic eye. (Sense of the flow of the battle)

I think these are 3 main things to start practicing as early as possible.

T10 is the most played tier.

Generally the higher you go, the more players each tier has. The only exception to this was T6 -> T7, where T6 had more players than T7. Atleast last time i checked, so ofc things can change.

Tips.

1. Enlarge the Minimap by 2 increments and learn to watch it.

2. Press Ctrl and hover over the cog above minimap => Toggle last know position on.

3. Go to setting and change to Alternate interface, you benefit from seeing peoples actual healt as opposed to % health bar.

4. Still in options, toggle Auto collision off but keep warning on => better to learn early how to sail without a crutch + allows intentional beaching.

Actual gameplay:

5. Try to play objective as your ship and skills allow, but if you see things going bad (example 2 vs 7) then do not push the objective recklessly

6. When not actively shoothing, don't remain zoomed in but Use RMB (by default) to get wide view look to maintain better situational awareness.

Never fire torps exactly at the grey aim assist, that is the spot the enemy ship wont be when your torps arive (except point blank range)
