Decoupling ranks and rewards was a mistake

In the new ranked system, you get your rewards for wins, no longer for progressing ranks.

As a result players can spam battles and get the rewards without any effort. After 200 battles you will still be at T10 but will have been carried 20 or 30 times by your team.

This promotes anti-social behaviour and is completely contradicting the goal of ranked battles. It was a mistake and should be changed back to only getting rewards if you progress rank.

What do y'all think?

Sadly the system greatly benefits the BismarckSniper1965's out there, so they'd most likely say:

I ranked to gold then I played ranked just to get all the steel. 
I then don’t care when I lose a star and can play anything and not just save stars on a Thunderer.

 

Makes it far less stressful for me when my team collapses or I potato...

I think it's great. As I never gave a rats arse about the rank level, but am only in it for a win and a few little trinklets. IT didn't change ranked matches themselves in the slightest as far as I notice, but it did lower the stress levels by a mile.

I always minimized ranked playtime to 20 matches max and usually only played randoms. Now I hardly play randoms and only play 2 -3 ranked matches every other day or so.

As I do not care about ranks I will just spam a few games and yolo quickly, without flags (can't win them any more) not putting in much effort, just enough games to get all steel from potato league  and... thanks, that's it.:Smile_trollface:

I think all game modes promote anti-social behaviour - as long as you are not playing in a division, where you can actually select your teammates.

Those people who spam endless games in Ranked are actually the very reason why this is so great. 

 

It makes Ranked much less frustrating, because a loss isn't such a big deal and you do not get screwed by these yolo spammers in your team anymore.

WG just legalized YOLOs and made it legit tactic. Same with camping with deadeye. Almost looks like a pattern

I might've been just lucky and got to rank 1 after an amazing streak of victories. The rewards are... underwhelming to say the least.

Because the rewards have been designed to be achieved by anyone, including the largest mass of 40+% players.

If they yolo spam enough battles, they will get the 10-20 victories needed for the rewards, and after that they leave Ranked, not caring that they destroyed this game mode for the players who were really playing for ranks.

I meant the reward for reaching rank 1 in gold league. It's quite bad.

Since Rank 1 rewards are crap, there's no reason to care about ranks anyway.

 

It's just a treadmill for steel and doubloons now. Not that I don't like that, easy doubloons and steel. And I can grind ships in a more controlled environment. I'll get to a Daring shortly and then Yugumo to Shima in next sprint ...

And how is this exacltly different to old ranked? 

After the first Teammate died the whole team went into "Safe a star - mode"... that was old ranked in a nutshell. 

Doesnt seem very social to me either....

nothing changed in that regard as the "Save a star" mentality never went away. It's just worsened by a new factor now ....

I prefer rewards being distributed by amount of wins and not by rank. It's not fun when you've been on a winning streak and then have a massive steamroller dropped on your head, deranking you down atleast 5 ranks and thus making you go through all that work again just to get back on track.

Are you playing in Gold? 

I never did that, bcs I know that most tryhards and farmbots would end there eventually. Its just not worth it. 

 

I stay in silver and I really dont care how and if my team is anti-social.... also Im still sporting a decent 63% WR  this season and I actually have more fun in ranked than in Randoms (if I play solo).

No, I am in Silver, grinding T9 DDs ... and if what the announced in the blog for next Season comes true, I'll stay in Bronze next ...

my ranked wr has gone from 52% ish to this with this new lay out (in gold)  it's terrible some of the games are............ lol.. it drives me mad becauae i know i'm not this bad, but i also know i'm not good enough to carry as much as is needed for the win  (way to much)... just makes me want to quit the whole s+++ show..lol. GL/HF ALL

Instead of people playing to save their star, now we have people throwing their ships as quickly as possible to get their rewards even with atrocious winrate. 

And on top of it, the reward/effort ratio also got reduced.

 

Great rework 10/10

I feel the new arrangement is a dramatic improvement; I may be in a minority, but it doesn't change whether I try and win or not (I always do FWIW), it just means that the mode is infinitely less frustrating as it doesn't really matter who I get on my teams - I don't need the strings of victories to get the rewards any more.

 

I call that a result (and my cardiologist would no doubt agree - less chance of elevated blood pressure)!

Next season is going to be depressing, for me at least.

Bronze VI - VII

A lot of fun ships but bronze rewards are kinda  meh.

 

Silver VIII - X

In season 2 you only needed to get 18 wins to get better rewards than rank 1 in bronze. I've stayed in Silver this whole 2nd season cause playing 3-4 games a night.

Next season Silver is going to be flooded with Bismarcks and Monarchs while you are trying to carry your potato BBs in your Daring.

 

Gold X

Oh great the most boring tier there is  and the most broken ships.

 

I guess  I'm clubbing with Belfast in bronze for easy wins and enjoy the summer.

I expect quite a few Belfast’s in next ranked sprint.

Will probably use it to grind though sinop but if not winning might change to Belfast and drop the 21 point jingles off conqueror  on it.

this season was grinding the donskoi out but losing streak so switched to Seattle and went dd hunting and much easier on the winning front.

lone thing have found with this system however is that less people worried about losing the rank and go for the win.
