Big Hunt

Update 0.10.2 brings a new temporary battle type called "Big Hunt"—a revamped version of the Key Battle presented in Update 0.9.10. Demonstrate your skills as you stand against foes in an engaging competition of the future by assuming command over a ship that represents one of three corporations!

Key Rules

The new battle type pits 16 players against each other and AI-controlled monsters on a huge map codenamed Polygon. Your main objective is to exit the Polygon via the Portal located at the center of the map.

You no longer need a key to achieve that, but be cautious, as the Portal opens up only some time after a battle starts, and access to it is heavily defended.

All players enter each battle solo, but can build up a team of their own or join other players to form teams as the battle unfolds.

It is now possible to enter battle as part of a Division, but each player still starts the battle on their own. To play together, the Division mates will, therefore, need to locate each other on the map once they are spawned, and build up a team to coordinate their efforts. We've also added an option to place markers on the Minimap that are visible to all teammates to enable better cooperation in battle.

The Big Hunt ends when all surviving players exit through the Portal, or when the battle time expires. The new mode will not feature a final battle in the Octagon.

Battle Points

By destroying monsters and other players, you can earn a temporary resource—Battle Points. Having accumulated a certain number of Battle Points, you can reinforce your ship directly in battle. You don't spend any Battle Points in the process of doing that, and because improving your ship won't cost any Battle Points, reinforce your ship as soon as you are able!

Specifically for the Big Hunt, we've added a new boss ship called Aurora. Defeating her will not be an easy ride, but doing so will bring a huge amount of Battle Points to the team that sinks her.

Successfully exiting the Polygon will bring you additional Battle Points.

Any Battle Points earned are transferred to the Port so that you can exchange them in the Armory on the Live Server for any of the three types of random bundles that offer different rewards. Among other items, players will be able to get a new temporary resource from those bundles—a Corporation Token—which can be exchanged for themed permanent camouflages for VIII Amagi, VIII Akizuki, and VIII Öland. 8b71f782-72bf-11eb-a820-8cdcd4b147d4.jpg

Ships

A total of six ships will be available to players.

The first three ships, which you are likely to already be familiar with from the Key Battle, are available immediately with all modules. The three new ships—Hector, Avenger, and Whirlwind—and all of their modules will become available after completing a chain of combat missions.

Each of the ships carries new types of weapons and consumables that can have a drastic impact on gameplay. Hector, for example, can go underwater and hence ignore enemy shells and torpedoes for a short spell of time. Avenger can be equipped with large-caliber mortars that have a big impact zone. Whirlwind offers a wide selection of torpedo armament, and is capable of regenerating HP by damaging her enemies.

Playing combat missions for new ships, and 9 big hunt battles? Sounds like a lot of work for 1 wg container.

I'll pass.

It is long, I know.. but those are there also to test the funcionality of those missions themselves, as most likely they will be in same style on live server (with different requirements, of course).

Im curious, why bother with this event again when it was so poor and boring few months ago that low amount of people played it. Why again?
I think that this game have much bigger issue such as server stability, lags, than funcionality of combat missions.

People waiting for years for optimization of game and game client. Still nothing.

There are more ships, with special abilities to try, also the option to play in division finally, or atleast you are sure, that your friend is there somewhere in the same game.

Also behaviour and difficulty of those monsters were increased, there is special AI ship Aurora, which is not easy to be killed.

Apart from this Big Hunt special mode, there are of course plenty other changes, additions or bug fixes. We are constantly working on stability, fixing issues etc.

Like I said above; boring event.

This game and her game client badly needs QoL changes, and im afraid that this is not wg's priority and never will be.

We see every few month legit complains on slow downloads or slow instalations of new updates that require 110% of anyones PC strength.

This work on stability, other changes, additions you are talking about is sad to say, meaningless next to real issues.

Poor and boring? I wasn't bored at all playing it. I wasn't playing it all day long but occasionally.

if starting in a division is now allowed

are you not just completely removing the possibility of a lone hunter DD

was one of the hardest but most fun ways to play, but you relied on people abandoning the allies that couldnt carry their weight

now that isnt an option and you wont even be warned about the division your disrupting being undisruptible or not

at the end, number of ships, their number of torps and the invulnerability time is ridiculous. They are too overwhelming.

After of some runs in the Big Hunt here are my thoughts.

- Did anyone test this iteration from the developers before throwing it on the PTS ? Cause its obvious if someone from this department play even one game will notice that most things work nice but when Aurora spawns the balancing of this mode is sent to HELL. The Flyfires are so many and everyone is got zerged too oblivion very fast not to mention that the time frame taht you have to stay alive and exit the portal is huge with all these zerglings boats wanted to kill you. I only survived once and thats caused i run away and got hunted from all the zerg for 2mins .... and that too get 4k points. Please balance something atleast in a acceptable way before you put it on PTS, you didnt even play 1 game on this mode before putting on PTS.

- I understand the logic behind the point of allowing divisions, i would also like it too play in Divisions but if you allow one or two div on the game mode the rest of the solo players wii lget in disadvantage position from the start. It would be better to allow Div to play only with Div in the mode and let solo players fight each other and div along in this mode.

- LOOT BOX issue (no wonder eh)
So to exchange the points we get from Big Hunt we have to spend them on 3 RNG boxes to get some probably rng currencty numbers so then we can spend them in the rewards. BRILLIANT idea said no one else before ... well played why you dont put an extra rng mechanic to determine if we allow to log in the server and save our sanity for playing these RNG fiesta.

I didnt got time to check the balancing of ships but since i meet all kind of ships and everyone got slaughtered from bots in the end that doesnt mind you probably :p

This mode is fun! Don't make it too easy concerning the Aurora pls. I guess the plan by WG is that more than 4 ships are required to defeat them.

Ciao Captain!

Yes, I think this game-mode has great potential. How engaging did you find the battles against Aurora?

  • As others have pointed out, once Aurora spawns, it's basically a game-over. I've played with full 6-member teams and still lost the match to the final boss. imho the portal should activate before Aurora, to encourage players to stay for extra rewards. Right now the game mode is basically unwinnable. If not that, massively nerf either the final boss' HP or the number of escorts.
  • It might be me, or a problem on my end, but I never recieved any hit damage indications during any battle of the game mode. I was being pumelled and there were very little visual and audio cues as to warn me that I was under threat.

I think there is potential in the new mode, but at the moment the difficulty spike in the final minutes makes it discouraging to play.

Ciao BlueBlin,

Thank you for your great feedback; we appreciate it.
I do agree that the portal should maybe open a bit earlier.
Regarding Aurora, though, I do like that it is so challenging to face. Making her too easy to defeat would demine her role and charm in the meta of the mode.

Both are only my opinions, though. 😊

Hi NoMana,

I am not sure if I understood everything correctly. But yes, overall, the monsters are more difficult to kill. Also, while playing a game-mode characterized by a different meta, it is understandable if you need a bit more time to adjust to the changes. During the second round, you will do much better, I am sure.

Second PTS test results

- Played few match's again and since the first PTS enemy bots seems to spawn in slower rate and is a bit more balanced but still the Aurora spawns earlier than you can leave which making the exit harder and also all the times the spawn location of Aurora is close to exit so it makes alot of harder for people to exit even if they dont want to participate on the slaughtering from the bots.
- All the times i played we got wiped from the bot aurora team even if we didnt fight each other and we concentrated on the bots except only once. I tried the Amagi ship with the invulnerability consumable and i killed the Aurora cause he wanted to ram me on the exit zone when i was parked there waiting to left. Small dd's that spawned with the aurora are too strong and too numerous so if you even think to fight each other as pvp zone the bots will eat you alive when the Aurora spawn.

- You have to decide if this mode will be some pve on the start and then pvp as it happen on the past or a full pve mode cause as i see on the PTS if you dont get a premade going in Big Hunt you have a chance to beat boss cause if you remotely think you can get 5-8 people to work together you are disillusioning your self and you will wipe from the bots. If you add on top of these that the exit port spawns too late you are forced to hide and pray to RNG god.

- Almost all of the 3 first ships that coming back arent balanced towards the Aurora fight and you mostly die if you dont get some decent group/division. The new 3 ships seems cool but if you dont upgrade them fast the early consumables are mostly crap (didnt try hector) - Amagi looks cool with some late upgrades but it seems too have fun and play decently you must spend ALOT of time to reach latest upgrades. Akizuki ship seems fun but when you got swarmed with small dd's your are a food for them.

My whining for loot RNG box's still counts :crab:

A little bit too easy. Although the adds are quite dangerous, you can torp Aurora from very far away as it is very slow. Maybe it should have more HP or move a little faster?

I did not like it since I could not get any out of it. since I was almost killed at once I enter the big hunt. But when I tried it later on it was really exciting my play fun. and it was really fun when I understod how to play. but in the start the rule was not so easy to understand. since last time we had to collect some item to pas through the portal. this time not. and that made it more fun.

Hi NoMana,
I can see how to game mode might be a bit confusing at first. It presents many new features and goals compared to the regular game. But I am glad that you are managing to have fun with it now. I would suggest you read our publication about it, though. You can find all the details you need to know regarding Big Hunt.
