[BBK] manecub Players 13 posts 9,843 battles Report post #1 Posted February 1, 2021 So it always seems that there's a lot of hate on being a CV player, and I have seen the idea of support carriers around every once in a while. so what I was thinking was would it be possible or even good if they released a modification upgrade for the CV, called support package or something and would like opinions and takes on how it could work. support package modification Slot 5, Replaces rocket planes with flare drop planes, Replaces torpedoes bombers with smoke curtain planes Replaces bombers with thermobaric bombs Fighters deploy 20% faster. Flare drop planes as far as I see them have two ways of using, 4 planes that you can drop over an area where it keeps ships spotted in a large area 7.5 km? except those in smoke. the second option where if you drop the flares into smoke it reveals all ships in smoke cloud but no other ships. Smoke curtain planes, 3 planes that each perform a short bombing run that deploys a thin line of quickly dispersing smoke over 1 km smoke lasts 30 seconds that can break line of sight. (planes making smoke run can keep ships spotted) Thermobaric bombs , 3 planes with one drop each, thermobaric bombs I see as doing a low damage but hitting a large area with a high chance of damaging modules/ knocking them out. (to balance this effect, modules knocked out should only be disabled for half the amount of time as normal and still fixable with damage control party) Hopefully this should add a new mix to how to play the game in a more supportive manner, any feedback helpful as long as it isn't remove CVs. Final note maybe another module called war room, that changes it back to the pre cv rework, RTS version.... but lets face it that will never gonna happen

[R7S] lovelacebeer Players 4,158 posts 25,764 battles Report post #4 Posted February 1, 2021 It’s an interesting idea, but if a support CV was put against a standard CV that would put one team at a noticeable disadvantage. Also 2 CVs per side consisting of a standard and support CV would be difficult in terms of queue waiting times, as well as probably being unpopular due to the spotting potential. [BAD-A] Matty814 Players 144 posts 12,298 battles Report post #6 Posted February 2, 2021 Personally I think it is the spotting that is one of the main issues with CVs (for the record I play all classes and I'm equally as bad in all of them) so the flare planes don't sit well with me. I have thought of the smoke idea in the past but as mentioned, it will put your team at a big disadvantage. In my eyes a 'support' carrier should be more geared towards fighters and protecting your team against the enemy CV. They tried this with some of the skills (interceptor) but they're not really effective from what I've seen. On another note, I'd like to remove full spotting from all carriers so that the rest of the team can only see the outline of 'spotted' ships on their mini map, akin to when there is a storm that reduces visibility.
rustyfeeder Players 47 posts 4,118 battles Report post #7 Posted February 2, 2021 It could work but not as a replacement. Keep 3 standard plane types and add a 4th type - support which can be configured.

Because XP and credit earnings are almost %100 fixed on the damage you've dealt.. may be damage and kills %90 rest %10...

It would be a pretty useless build and the rage against the team ignoring your smoke and flares would be inevitable

[D-P-B] The_Norwood Players 187 posts 20,427 battles Report post #11 Posted February 2, 2021 Making controllable fighters would help. One of the big issues with the rework is that you can no longer do an AA layout for carriers, which you could before the rework, with CVs actually combatting other CVs planes. We don't have that now, along with not having effective AA anymore. Currently there is NO defence against CVs. Even the blob fails.
