Possible US Navy torpedo DD split

So here are a few candidates for some USN torpedo boat DD's with wing mounted launchers as opposed to the centerline launchers on the hybrids.

Tier 5 - O'brien class - 4x1 100mm guns and 4x2 TT's

Tier 6 - Tucker class - 4x1 100mm guns and 4x2 TT's

Tier 7 - Caldwell class - 4x1 100mm guns and 4x3 TT's

Tier 8 - Gridley class - 4x1 127mm guns and 4x4 TT's

Tier 9 - Bagley class - 4x1 127mm guns and 4x4 TT's

Tier 10 - Benham class - 4x1 127mm guns and 4x4 TT's

Both tier 5 and 6 served into the interwar period in keeping with most other ships of those tiers and tier 7 did see service in WW2 despite all 3 being mid - late WW1 in origin.

All ships should have decent stealth (about 5.7/5.8 after accounting for skills/camo/mods) and consumables the usual smoke/speed boost. Maybe a heal for the higher tier boats.

I think since these are torp focused a range boost for the mid tiers in particular would be a good idea, maybe 7km, 8km and 8.5 km for the tier 5 -7 boats and standard torp ranges for the others.

What do you folks think? Interesting? Trash? I should shut up and go away? :P

Caldwell at Tier VII is going a bit far - the ship does have a lot of torpedoes, but really it's a Tier IV. Generally speaking the 1000 ton classes you've listed (O'Brien/Tucker/etc) would have too small a health pool to compete at higher Tiers (they're all smaller than Visby).

There are lot of USN DD classes and variations unused or used for other national lines,  but the question is how you make them different to what exists now, and how you prevent torpedo soup from brewing (as it would if there was one or more 16 torpedo DD in the USN Tech Tree line). USN DDs used to have alternative hulls for an AA role, but they can't do that anymore, so the options are quite limited. A Monaghan style tradeoff (guns for Torpedo Tubes) might work?
