Normally a ship must earn exp itself to use to research modules and ships, but free exp is universal and can be used for research on any ship as well as for things like commander skill training. When you research something, if your ships exp is not enough you can use free exp to complete the research. In this example I can research Algerie by using up all 629 of my Galissonnieres ship exp and then 69,371 free exp. It typically does not "drain" in small amounts for any reason unless you are using it for cheaper research or training. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
