Detonation by a ship that never fired at me

So we were cruising along with our Halland when it detonated by a Smaland. 

After the game the Smaland player contact me and he said he never fired a shot on the Halland.

Looking in the stats proved he was right, its funny, I detonated just like that...no fire, no shot hit ..nothing.

Any ideas why?

A shot fired at a ship close to the Halland (so that would explain the 0 shots) that caused splash damage.

Very odd, I would expect Smalland HE splash to be pretty small.
