Commanders,

We've received a lot of questions and comments regarding 2020 Santa Containers, and we would like to clarify the situation.

As some of you noticed, certain ships in the containers have much higher drop rates than others. Santa Containers have worked like this since the very beginning, and until 2018 we even mentioned that peculiarity in the items description. After 2018 it was not present in the description anymore, as it was deemed excessive to the already detailed description.

We're sorry that some of you are left disappointed by the Santa Containers this year. We know this is something that a lot of our players look forward to and the last thing we want is to see you upset approaching holiday season. Thus, we will do the following:

  • We will work on improving the next Santa event with the feedback and concerns you voiced.
  • Until Sunday, Dec 13, any player is eligible for a one-time refund request for the Santa Crates they purchased. Please refer to Customer Support if you would like to have a refund, and please note, in order to prevent longer queue times, all purchases you want to refund should be in one request. The refunds will be handled according to the normal procedure – the goods from the containers should still be on your account, otherwise, Customer Support will have to do a roll-back to restore them and process the refund.

Regardless of whether you were considering Santa Containers at all, we hope you will enjoy all of the holiday activities and gifts this year – stay tuned for more news on the upcoming celebration.

Thank you, good luck, and fair seas.

Just curious, are you going to put a link to this message in the game and launcher?

No, I ask what is unclear so I can explain.

Anyway, welcome to the internet, the place where random strangers don't sugercoat everything for you.

So what you say is that even when WG staff first say that you can get the crates refunded and then WG support say something else and they write in here that is people have been spending doubloons that they can get them back and suddenly they have deleted them then you cant understand why people gets  confused and still ask questions ??

Why ? That would mean more customers could actually ask for the refund :P

even if you received one flag that is no longer on your account, you will get a rollback.

I indeed played one game with special flags. I had all of those plenty before getting more from containers. If that is the reasoning then it's pretty fair to assume most players having to endure a rollback.

@YabbaCoe is this post suddenly appearing is says i have been written January 1 1970 ??

This date is probably default in mysql on unix.

Meaning that the post was probably not created via forum interface, but rather inserted in the database (cloned from NA) with date value as NULL (converted to default).

Dear YabbaCoe,

Please ... my following questions are not directed towards you, but towards WG itself:

Add)  ... certain ships in the containers have much higher drop rates than others. Santa Containers have worked like this since the very beginning.

What?    So ... it is not coincidence, right?     So   "WG´s gifts giving RNG machine"    is acctually    "WG´s pre-programmed milking machine" ??         So your Santa is gangster, right ?    Majority of players won´t get expected value for their money, so ... from the very beginning WG wanted to dissappoint players, not to please them.      (I can study probability of any roullette in any casssino, and only after that I can decide if I want to play.  ... Here, with you WG, where is the transparency ?)

Add)   We will work on improving the next Santa event  ...

What ??  ...   Big boss of WG, Viktor in the pink T-shirt, is not already sitting with programmer solving the "unethical milking machine" issue now ?       How much effort does it take to change the programming code containing the long list of different probabilities for different ships to just one row for pure RNG generated number, and then have selection of the ship from the list based on this number ?      (Players would like to see the solution tomorrow, not for the next Christmas ... "we will work .. next Santa event" is just a joke, but the bad one !)

Add)   ... stay tuned for more news on the upcoming celebration

After this "Makarov & California" case I would expect real valueable Gift for any WoWS player for free with "Big Sorry" before any upcoming celebration ...

You know, YabbaCoe, I know you have not caused the trouble. But ...  I would expect that concerning topics like ... money, customers, long-term relationship, etc. ... WG top  & sales management already have some (high) standards. But ... another Christmas ... another dissapointment.    (Should I always think:  Does  WG want to exploit me anyhow again?  ...  Or just for upcoming days - would you recommend me to buy Santa´s Gift Containers?  And you understand that I don´t want to get hugely overpriced low tier ship, right?)

Merry Christmas,

Turbeen

It seems that this full, generous and honest (russian) refund will cost me:

  1. Both Verizon containers
  2. Advent Calendar progress and possibility for the final reward
  3. Grind of 4 days (including those containers).

Put that in the ticket.

Ask for a rollback, and subsequent recredit of those items. Especially the Verizon containers and Advent Calendar are fairly easy for them to add manually if they chose to do so.

They should, as it's their screw up. They won't, but it's nice to make them squirm.

I don't know what is the source of your information, but the first post (by YabbaCoe) seems pretty simple and easy to understand.

I will repeat myself once again, since I honestly can't see what is so hard to understand:

If you do not have any goods you have recieved from the loot box(es) (=spent them, used them, destroyed them = do not possess them anymore), you can not return them to the seller, thus the seller can not take them back (because you can't give them to them, because you've spent them = don't have them anymore) and give you your money back. The only other possible way to make them not-used or not-spent is to roll back your whole account to the state it was before you have even recieved said items. This way you can return something you no longer have. It is like going back through the time. The con of rolling your account back is that it will be rolled back to the state it was on Dec 3rd.

I don't think I can explain it in more detail, since a child should now be able to understand.

Dont think so. Didnt WG stated once that only 5% players browse the forums. They still need to get the money from the players who dont know about it.....

Of course it's possible but why on earth would they do it?

Because it's their f*cking screw up! They f*cked up, they should fix it in a way that does not harm their customers (i.e. scam victims) even further.

They are the ones scamming people. And when people demand to be refunded for the scam, even the refund is another scam.

I understand WG is a company needing to make money, haven talked to my clan, we would like a process, whereby, we know these crates are a form of gambling, even if it doesn't say as so. What we'd like is like on all gambling machines like slot machines, is the % of a ship drop, Then we could make ardent decisions whether to buy crates. Camo's and standard signals shouldn't be in a crate, or perhaps the cheaper crates,  leaving steel, coal, doubloons, premium time, and Ships to be won. If we knew this then we'd buy crates with better chances of actually winning a rare ship. You could limit the amount of crates a person can buy, if you don't wish to have players owning all the ships than their actual price.

If those players don't know they were supposedly scammed (which they weren't regarding to WG), they won't ask for refund, and they won't know the containers worked, work and will work such a rigged way, so the will buy more in the future.

I believe this is a common practice in many different business fields: "We will refund anyone who comes complaining. Those who are happy with what they recieved can keep their goods."

It is you who don t understand the point:

WG created this mess, not the players. its up tthem to make it right. If roll back is the only option (and for the record, it is NOT the only solution WG have) they are willing to do, they should also compensate for the loss of grinding and mission players have done since then. Easiest there I can think of is a bunch of FreeXP. And I am not talking about 20-50k.......

Speaking about a case where you already used your goods, yes, roll back isn't the only option. The other option is to keep what you have. This is what you are offered. Take it or leave it.

That is my point and that is what I find easy and simple to understand, yet other have hard time to come along.

@Asta__Roth

Things go tricky if they cannot check there are enough resources to deduct. Regardles how those have been used.

Example: You have 54*Flag XX. You get 80 more of those from containers. i.e. total 134*Flag XX. You use one and now WG cannot make a simple calculation to see that there is a plenty of flags left after making a compensation and removing 80 flags. Flag is a flag, unless each individual flag has an earmark and they are being used "last in - first out" fashion.

Now the customer service is telling me I have to go through a rollback.
I have more doubloons, coal, flags, camos etc than I got from containers. Still they seem to be incapable of just withdrawing goods from my account, returning used doubs and keeping everything else as is.

I'm gonna have this issue too did they say how far the rollback will be?

It is obvious this is not RANDOM SHIP FROM 107 SHIPS. It should be stated 1 RANDOM SHIP FROM A PRE LISTED 7 SHIPS, THEN 1 OF 100 REMAINING SHIPS (WITH A MINOR CHANCE FOR HIGHER TIER SHIPS).

They are trying to fool us all when they say it is RANDOM, but it is not. The lottery draw is RANDOM as all the balls have the precise same RANDOM chance to be drawn.

I'm not a lawyer, but I bet there's someone here that could lead hundreds of players to collective to represent this situation in court in different countries. There are prints of their promotion, there are dozens of youtube videos proving how misleading their RANDOMNESS concept is. This situation won't change (they actually didn't change the event) if we only stay in this forum (WG forum, btw) trashing how crap they are - it has happened for 3 years already, thankfully someone put 2 and 2 together.

Alternatively, people in the UK can make a complaint at https://www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html
Please gather all the evidence, prints, videos and include in your complaint.
People from other countries please search for your consumer protection agency.

Happy legal reporting.
