An encouragement to ask for a santa crate refund (and possibly a class action lawsuit)

With the latest (very solidly backed) discovery of how the santa crates are rigged for ship drops, I encourage people to ask WG for a refund.

And possibly, those of you who bought some of these crates and got the predicted ships - I encourage you to even possibly consider joining a class action lawsuit (one where you as a group bring this to court).
The text on these santa crates is so misleading for the average consumer, that WG is on quite thin ice on this particular matter.

Companies like WG (which I personally didn't use to have an issue with) can only get away with these practices if you as consumers do not voice your opinion on the matter.
What happened here is that most of you most likely bought these crates under the impression that it was close to a lottery on if you'd get some ships, and if so, close to a lottery on what kind of ship.

This is clearly not the case, as some excellent Reddit posts and CC videos have shown.
And who can blame you? I thought so too, but fortunately I was able to save me this money before I spent them on said crates

Just my five cents on the issue, but I really hope people take note.
Ask for that refund from WG customer service, as it will only take 5 or 10 minutes of your time, to voice what you think about this practice.
You might not get your money back, but it sends a very strong first signal to WG when several people do it.
And, worst case, if anyone considers a class action lawsuit, consider jumping on that bandwagon - you do have a solid case here!

I would think it's up to a lawyer to let you know if you've got a case and even then they may be agreeing with you for monetary gain - a court would decide if you had a valid case.

Honestly its really just a straight up scam at this point.

It was rigged last year, just with different ships.

Data from 900 containers 2019

Top 30 ships by total drop

It's a no brainer. Anybody who want their money back will get it as this is misleading marketing and not complying with regulations in any EU country. I'm afraid I cannot join you cause I was holding off buying until I knew more about the drop rates etc (been a WoT customer for 8 years so not taking any chances) and certainly now waiting until this mess is sorted out before parting with any money.

I'm confused why people are still buying stuff of this lying company.

Anybody taking these frauds to any court has my unconditional moral support (can't join as I didn't buy anything for the last 2 years).

Either they just plain ignore you guys (bad luck), or they admit someone set the drop percentages wrong (they will say a bug) and compensate you guys with 7 days of premium :)))

The good thing about all this drama is that Wargaming really cannot ignore it.

I look forward to their response.

It is East Europe not the US. In East Europe noone cares about these kind of riots or people complaining. They are like: they gonna get bored and go home.

Just look at Belarus. A whole country risen and they are still not giving a thing...

Compared to that this is nothing. All they undertand is power and money. So either sue them with hundreds of other or just don't pay them a cent. Otherwise they won't get it.

What I will say that the containers advertise on chances of containing rare ships that they probably can't. If it said you can get makarov or one of these other [edited] or something else if you have everything, I'd be okay with it.

Of course they will. As they do all the time.

The only thing that will make them worry is that we, whole as community, close the wallets to them. That's the only reaction that will make them change course.

I am sure this differs per country, but for example in the Netherlands you could file a complaint with the Kansspel Autoriteit They are also the ones that went after EA for the lootboxes.  WG might just listen when they run the risk of 5m-10m euro fines.

Thank you,

I just send the issue we have here to the Be heard section of the European Union. Even if nothing comes from it, at least I did my duty...

what do you care, just let WG do its thing, and you do something else than playing WG games.

I do agree with second half of your sentence - do something else, like go outside and play with yellow snow or whatever.

But everyone should care about first half of it as well. More people ignore shady marketing practices, more inclined to use them and bold are corporations.

Spread the word and vote with your wallet.

As for the lawsuit? lol

Lawyers cost money. I'm not sure who's going to sponsor that endeavor.

If anything - there are several EU institutions that deal with consument protection - report WG there.

Before you do so, read 'terms & conditions' first and licence agreement as well.

Carefully.

Whales who have spent lots of money on bs containers should sue. But they won't, of course.

You can make the case that whales are more likely to be happy with their crate loot: if you had all the crappy options already, you were much more likely to get good stuff.

One aspect of all this that makes me roll my eyes at WG (again) is that - if they were competent - they could have actually spun the short-lists as a good thing; when we read the general list of ships that can drop from crates we tend to focus on the interesting stuff (the T9s, and various rarities, especially), but we may forget the 'bottom' of the list:

  • V Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya
  • V Viribus Unitis
  • V Genova
  • V Texas
  • V Kirov
  • V Mikoyan
  • V Exeter
  • V Yahagi
  • V Marblehead Lima
  • V Marblehead
  • V Murmansk
  • V Krasny Krym
  • V Hill
  • V Siroco
  • V Okhotnik

If you hadn't been sacrificing enough virgins to the volcano gods, you could spend a lot on the bigger crates and still get only ships from this lot; the short-lists reduce (or even eliminate) that possibility; if WG had focused on that as well as being honest that - at the same time - your actual chance of getting the best things in the initial crates is (apparently) zero, they might have avoided much of this year's (apparently now traditional) PR chicken-up spectacular.

I agree. But lawyers cost money, and I doubt it's worth compared to the price of the crates.

What a clown.

Stop giving legal advice please. Leave that to the actual professionals.

You would not only have to pay the lawyer in advance, but also the court fees.

You would also not know if and when you would see any of that money back. In the worst case, you would even have to pay WG's legal costs too.

Considering that you have almost nothing to gain, the whole idea is very questionable.

OP has seen too many movies.
