I'd appreciate a decent discussion, the first one to rant about YouCnowVhat will be smelling like durian for the rest of their miserable life, so be warned, I placed a curse on this topic! 1
[XTREM] Miragetank90 Players 1,885 posts 14,428 battles Report post #2 Posted November 17, 2020 I mean, it always has been, especially for certain ships. And even if you consider the least manoeuvrable ships in the game, they work up to speed forwards, backwards, and shift into full turns in largely compressed time. It be that way for gameplay, or at least WGs vision of how it should be.
[NAN0] HaachamaShipping Players 8,456 posts 9,251 battles Report post #3 Posted November 17, 2020 All ships are faster than they would be IRL, because matches should be decided within 20 minutes, not last hours or the better part of a day. Similarly, planes, torps, shells, etc. are sped up as well.

They aren't. To elaborate, look at the Midway planes for example and notice how quickly they can accelerate and decelerate. How tightly and quickly they can turn. Heck the DBs turn practically on the spot if you need them to. Real prop planes don't work that way. Speeds are also not correlating with reality, and there's no ability to change altitude manually(unless you attack, or mountain), etc. Not realistically manoeuvrable. [NCDF] Echo_519 Players 180 posts 5,826 battles Report post #7 Posted November 17, 2020 This game is not suppossed to be a realistic simulation, it's an arcade game. Arcade games always use unrealistic mechanics for gameplay reasons.
[KAKE] Uglesett Players 2,725 posts 6,701 battles Report post #8 Posted November 17, 2020 I remember seeing a video about (IIRC) the USS Texas once where they were showing the engineering spaces and talking about the machinery. With the boilers fired up, it would take about half an hour to reach top speed from a standstill. Let's not go for realistic time scales and maneuverability, shall we?

Well, also a few not so realistic things, like the ability to accurately snipe magazines, which IRL wouldn't be possible.

Not unless they've been retrofitted with them in recent years. Video doesn't look exactly new, though. That said, bow thrusters don't really contribute much at high forward speeds, so they're usually not used outside of harbour maneuvering.

Doesnt that sound like fun? 10 mins for Nelson to reach 15 knots. I mean, come on! If that doesnt spell F-U-N then I dont know what does! Hey, lets also advertise it as a way to prevent stomps? I mean, cant throw games in 5 mins if you cant get moving right? 1
