What WG have done right

Every now and then instead of complaining what we think they are doing wrong (a natural use of forums) it's helpful to let them know what we think they have done right relative to the earlier days of the game.

For me, the regular content/events is a major improvement, i know people says it is content overload, and they feel unable to complete it all, but i don't see it this way, the more content there is the more choice you have as to what you want complete (get the reward), whilst you naturally drop rewards for a lot of the rest of the content through normal play. I think the directives are far more doable than they used to be, and are well balanced. I have zero interest in the space/Halloween events (never have), and so won't be doing any of it, and so won't be getting the rewards, and that is good design in my opinion, it isn't the only content in town.

Resource/currency drop rate is pretty well balanced. RB may be the major grind, but having one currency that is can be good for the game. Players feel a sense of achievement when they finally earn enough of that one currency to pick a reward. Steel and especially coal are far easier to earn than in the past, but still are gated enough that the rewards give a sense of achievement. Silver ships are really easily earned now comparatively, with the drop rate of special flags being in a good place.

Drop your positives below too!

There has been no eventium drops in daily missions for a while now, which is great. There's steel in there now, though, which is not great.

Are you drunk? This is pretty much the best they could have added.

It's a horrible way to try to force people to play lots every day. Daily missions should only ever have some nice bonuses for people who want to play anyway, not near-mandatory collectibles that force you to play.

Their announcement, finally, that Italian BBs are on the way to WoWS. This is all I can think of as a positive since the Great Wreck (aka the farce CV rework).

I think World of Warships is a fine free to play model, without any pay to win. Sure, it'll take a free player considerably more time to unlock stuff, but they'll unlock stuff eventually and have no disadvantage in battle.

I also quite liked the Odin and Anchorage dockyard events. :)

On the whole I think WG when it comes to the actual modelling of the ships, the yare second to none, how many times have you looked at whatever ship that is in your port, right in front of you and think damn, thats a fine looking ship?

One thing that puts this game ahead of World of tanks is there is no premium ammo, that is a one massive got it right, right there.

One thing they could do though which in my very humble opinion would put a few feathers in their cap, is give us the option to hide one or two maps, three at most, first one to get binned would be Epicentre, detest that map with a vengeance, there is another one with lots of small islands where you cannot fully aim with out a dam island being in the way, cannot remember what it is but my blood pressure goes up whenever I play it, lol.

So, as long as you get something its "horrible"? what you have currently already are nice bonuses. if you lower that people will start complaining you wouldn't get anything for playing.

Apparently they changed first 3 stage daily mission from baseXP to damage - thats good imo.

Thats kinda the issue:

This game became play for rewards, not play to have fun. If you feel like playing is not worth when you dont get nice rewards, then you are already inside a the trap.

Scenarios are still around, there are still players who want to play them and sometimes it's possible to get a division of 5-7 players together for some fun competent team play.  Being able to assemble a big division and get rid of all the random grief that comes from a random MM is great!

Flags, coal, credits, XP, fine. Any rare resource or time gated eventium, not so much.

The art assets are amazing, especially for this Halloween event as well as the environment is looking better already.

I actually like that there is something new to see weekly and events are nice added bonuses for me playing the game.

Scenarios are fun to play together although would like to be able to pick up people in ones that are not "operation of the week", it's an artificial barrier and annoying when 5 of you are in a division.

I haven't played since the beginning. But what's right, is lots.

- Ship autism. Merely looking at the armor mode made me crap my pants

- Great visuals!

- Garbage matchmaking means that bad players such as myself get awesome games every now and then. Rollercoaster is better than a carousel

- Basic surface ship gameplay feels very much like it rewards skill even with the RNG

- The grind to actually get ships and stuff you need to play is pretty tolerable. Only dockyard/etc unnecessary stuff is

- Every ship feels like a big thing to get, which they absolutely should

- Balance is decent in the random battles environment, CV's aside. I realize it's a contrarian position but when you've played games where picking your favourite thing means autoloss, it sets one's expectations to less than perfect balance

Very little this year has been positive in my eyes but I guess at least they learnt from the PR mess with the Odin and Anchorage events, but even then they seem to be getting a little greedy with the Hizen (to be confirmed though).

I think they improved the interface a little. Especially being able to change the key bindings of the consumables is pretty useful (long overdue, but still).

I'm having a hard time finding anything else though. I guess getting some Steel by doing dailies is kinda nice, especially if one lands short of a few hundred after a Ranked Season.

2020 has been a pretty trash year thus far and WoWS is following suit.

Being able to farm many good camos last patch was good. Other events have been a tad meh this year but the last one was enjoyable (in large part because the directives were doable with normal play).

The ship models, as ever, are good.

Learning curve is, for me at least, just right – challenging enough to be interesting but it's not super hard to get good results. Apart from the 457-spam, I find surface gameplay pretty well balanced.

They appear to have calmed down on the pace of premium releases compared to 5 months ago?

The game has its problems, sure, but the core of it is good and usually rewarding.

You have to consider, you get that for doing absolutely nothing but play, what you normally do anyways while playing.

The flags are very nice, but also the easiest to get. everything else is not necessary. If you feel you need coal and especially steel ships you need to pay the price of grinding.

If daily feel like work for you, that's absolutely your problem. Just don't do them, if you don't want to. The only thing you will miss out is progress on the targets you set for yourself. And if its even too much to get the flags, you play the game so rarely you don't need them anyway. I really don't see a problem here.

btw, there are currently no event currencies available, and those are even more optional then the rest is already.

That's actually an extremely good question.

What HAVE they done right in the last 2 years?

Because quite frankly I can't think of a single thing.
