What was your weirdest or most awkward/embarrassing way to die in WoWs?

A recent observation on a stream made me think about my personal, most weird way to die and i have actually 2 that are burnt into my memory and i will never forget.

1.

Years ago, when i unlocked the Khabarovsk and it was considered broken op, i played my first game with her and it was 'special'. There was a camping enemy Yamato with full HP sitting next to an island and didn't move all game long. I decided to yolo this guy, but sadly i had some knowledge holes in regards to torps (especially Khaba torps), torpedo belts and also how certain mechanics work in this game, such as ramming.
So i ambushed the Yamato, yoloed around the island and torped him right in his fat belly. Well, i landed all torps but i didn't know that Khaba torps only tickle BBs and that Yamato has a very high torp damage reduction on top of that, he survived easily. This threw me off a bit, so i had the next genius idea - i ram this guy, this will show him who is boss! Yep, back then i had no idea that ramming another ship only deals damage equal to your maximum ship hit points (without ramming flag). I got what i asked for, i rammed this Yamato and dealt like 26k damage and died, while he lived and got a Die-hard on top of it. After that game i hated the Khaba and it remained this way to this day!

2.

This is a short one. Long ago, when we had Forts in the game… I was fighting over a cap with my Gearing and smoked up inside of a cap zone. For whatever reason another ship decided to push forward next to my smoke and sadly, this ship was under fire by the Fort. Anyone who remember Forts know how inaccurate they were, but they hit like a truck. Well, the Fort dispersion sucked because its shells did not hit the ally ship, but one shell blind fired me in the smoke and detonated my Gearing. What can i say, i wasn't a huge fan of Forts and i'm glad they are gone.

What's your most awkward/weird/embarrassing way to check out in this game?

One of the first time I played the Gneisenau, soon after the branch was released, as a top tier.

Not being used to BBs that went past 30 knots and had turtleback, I decided to play aggressively. Very aggressively.

I'm not sure how many people shot at me, all I know is that I melted and died during the 18th minute.

I was not a popular person.

didn't die..

But the most embarrasing moment was,

I got citadelled by a single AP firing fort in a scenario..

I still remember that shell flying towards me.. and I was like.. pffft! one shell..

hits my bow.. ringing in my ears..

Guys.. that fort just citadelled me.. with one single shot..

guys: MUHAHAHAHAHA! (they are still laughing)

Two incidents come to mind. One of them was yesterday.

86 HP Baltimore getting a ram kill on my 45k HP Ingis Purgatio, despite the best effort from me, my division and my team to kill him. We actually joked about him being a bot beforehand since he didn't bother to angle or evade damage in any way.

The second and older incident is being dev struck from full health in my Kirov by a Colorado. That is my first and only Kirov game to date.

Normally I am the person that gets super lucky, but when I am not, it goes horribly wrong.

i was in my boi midway

20km from yamasushi, sleeping giant as map

ranked season, recent one

i was going to blast and torpedo her but i magically hear the sound of your ship sinking (my midway was full hp, 71600 i guess it's max)

and i saw that someone got a devstrike, i was behind an island from the other side of the map  the island near the border of the map and he was where the C/B cap should be, left of the map

my ship got citadelled at 20km by a yamato, BY ALL 9 SHELLS, AND WHEN I MET HIM IN THE NEXT BATTLE HE DID THE SAME WITH AN HAKURYU...

@Excavatus, are cvs op? this is the truth

I spawn in my shimakaze and go for the cap. A random blind torpedo salvo kills me in the first minute.

I exit and pick harugumo. I spawn in the exact cap and exact map. I go for the cap and a random blind torpedo salvo kills me in the first minute.

Oh oh.. I have another one..

we got into a game with a friend..

2 x harugumos..

we were on left.. trying to find a good position to farm BBs..

we were sailing towards each other.. to smoke up..

out of nowhere, blind torpedo salvo deteced!!!!

I immediately started evasive action.. I was confident that I'd dodge..

then a wild div mate in harugumo appears on my left.. hitting me.. and pushing me into the enemy torpedoes...

while protecting himself by using me as a damage sponge..

that day,

the bloody, @ToxicWomble discovered how to teamkill a friend without getting pink...

The knife wound on my back.. still hurts time to time!!

Well.. since I get an embarrassing death in nearly every one of my battles, it's hard to remember all of them. :Smile_child: However, one particularly embarrassing moment came when I was on a BB (can't remember which one, one of those Legendary Soviet ones, I think) and reversing engines (which I rarely do) while under heavy enemy fire. Bang :fish_boom:, my stern hit a friendly ship low on HP which for some reason had sneaked right behind me. I sank him, got hit by torp right at the same time and sunk... I turned pink... :Smile_hiding:

enemy furious though this was the sort of action they needed to be part of, and dev-strike citadelled me... with its bombers, through the keel.

Going back a way but when i was first starting to play I ambushed the enemy Bogue in my 3/4 health Mutsuki back when there was only 1 Japanese DD line, I popped up right next to him coming around the island confident of an easy kill but before I could get my torps off a single shot from his secondaries detonated me.

Playing Minotaur, striding confidently into a middle cap, turning side on, smoking up and switching to torpedoes ready for the 2 BBs I knew were about to round the island 6km away......

Wondering why the torpedo aiming reticles didn't appear threw me for a second, then the appearance of being targeted by 5 of the opposition suddenly focused the mind......

Id switched to Des Moines and forgotten, it ended about as well as you'd expect!!!!  :Smile_teethhappy:

Fat fingered smoke when trying to hit engine boost. 2 minutes later arcing through a cap and hit smoke for no effect because it hasn't recycled yet. Splat.

My first game in the Smolensk that everyone said was overpowered.

Laid my smoke and started setting fires.

This is so easy, I thought as I drifted out of my smoke to be one shot by a battleship.

I left that game very quickly.

Killed by a De Grasse once. As he wrote it, he was checking a BB's movement with the torp indicator when accidentally launching them. A good 7 km away, i was just turning around an island with my T-22, total unspotted since minutes, when suddenly warning, broadside to torps  infront of me..........devstrike lol.

1. Getting killed in my near full health Massasschussets by a one-salvo-kill Sinop in a ram that I should have seen coming miles away.

2. The infamous torp on the nose you see coming from miles, could expect, and still somehow cannot avoid.

Taking out my Yamato like so many times before moving towards my chosen position and oh hey torpedoes incoming.

Hmm with a bit of manouvering i can face tank only 1 or have 3 or so hit my sides at a bit of an angle meh i will take that single one after all what could go wrong ?

Anyhow having earned 10 detonation flags was no big deal but it does hurt a bit that i was never even spotted.

Well, I'm sure a lot of potato moves have been pulled by me in the past, so many in fact that I don't remember any one of them specifically. But let's just go with the general paradigms:

  • Going for that close-up shoving-all-the-torps-down-the-guy's-neck but missing most or all of them at extremely close range and getting blapped;
  • especially in a stealthy DD when all that was required really was to gain just a little more distance and the guy would have never seen it coming;
  • another variation: sneaking up from behind to an opponent camping alongside an island, often a front-gun only BB, and just have the guy sail away, dodge my attack and blap me;
  • fourth variation on this theme: in the bad old days when the Target Acquisition System Modification was still available, trying to sneak up on an opponent camping alongside an island, usually a Jean Bart, only to be detected at 3 km out already instead of just 2 km, and miss the attack and get blapped;
  • although this could also easily get very embarrassing for the other guy, like if he had snuck up so close to some rocks in front of him, for torpedo protection from that direction, that he now was unable to sail away and had to take the full, er butt-load of torps while unable to blapp me;
  • Trying to pull off a ram and then either being dodged, or missing closely, or changing my mind about dying in mid-attempt, and either way ending up fully broadside at extremely close range in time for the other guy to calmly obliterate my citadel with multiple shells;
  • The old getting-too-close-in-muh-smoked-up-Ship-while-trying-to-catch-noob-DDs-with-hydro (Friesland smoke fire penalty is 3 km, Neptune: 6.6km);
  • Variation of that theme: Getting annihilated in Lo Yang by The God Of Blind-Firing Into Smoke in a high dpm DD or cruiser;
  • Smoking up in muh Smolensk, getting blapped, remembering they put the smoke on the hydro button in that ship.

I'm sure I'll remember a few others in a minute or so.

Once, a long time ago, I was trying to manoeuver away from attackers & I somehow ran aground so hard & in just such a way that I could neither go forward or backwards. Ofc I was deleted.

To this day, I'm convinced I must have found a fluke shoreline where if you hit it just right (well, wrong, actually) you get perma stuck. There can't be many spots like 'that'. Maybe, just 'that' one (lol).

Atlanta. Less than 2min of battle and I was not spotted yet.

I was sailing near an allied BB when this BB received one salvo from 20km and boom... my Atlanta was devastated.

I think that I have the replay.
