As a cruiser/battleship player, how much help do you expect/need from a DD?

Cos I swear to god..... I could kill 11 enemy players and 11 potatoes on my team wouldn't be able to kill the last one.

that's the thing about DDs. They are stronger if there are lot of potatoes in MM, and weaker if playing vs decent players, borderline useless.

A lot of reasons, but abundance of good players in competitive is not one of them.

Yes, CVs and long range radar. Both has nothing to do with the quality of players, but with the limited slots per team and how broken some ships are when it comes to long range radar and tankiness.

I have not thought about it. I prefer them to die so the enemy comes at me faster. Whenever I try to get close I die very quickly so it's better to just wait.

My DD friends tend to scare the enemy. So that's bad.

you wanna say good players don't prefer broken ships in randoms?

other way around.

an overpen or 2 from my bb against the opponent dd they are fighting, could equal a salvo from their own guns. more if i have he loaded.

if i have allied dd and the opponents lose all theirs, im in a better tactical position.

you might want to edit the names out of the second pic before you get a warning for name and shame.

30k spotting damage?

might be one of the reasons your team didnt do amazing

probably had a DD on the enemy team spotting and killing them left undetected

You can spot plenty and still not get allocated spotting damage while doing it depending on the circumstances, like his team not damaging the ships he spotted :cap_like:

More than happy to share replay. I hunted down and killed (with little help) all 4 enemy DDs. I was in front line entire time. Not my fault my teammates can't hit a barn from the inside.

I don't care

My Cruisers called, they want their fire chance back from you

I'll trade my fire RNG if you got some better teammates to spare? :Smile_teethhappy:

Maybe it had something to do with couple of BBs sailing on J line, not able to reach spotted ships, who knows :cap_popcorn:

Randoms don't consist of only good players. In fact, the vast majority are not considered good player.

I've had instances where i cleared an entire enemy flank of 5 ships with only 12 k spotting damage because the players with me that were in shooting range were incapable at damaging enemy ships in general. So we lost with me having 2x the XP of the one 2nd place, like OP. Spotting damage is directly depending on teammates actually being able to hit and damage something ^^

Bet you still got a few -1 karmas for the game as well.

Had a similar situation in my Grozo, 3 ships killed, 6 torp hits, over 800 shells fired, 13 fires and 66 aircraft killed.

Still got reported.

I don't expect anything from team mates. If anything, I expect my DD to be dead by the five minute mark due to yoloing some cap and getting wrecked by some Ognevoi it should have won against.

I would not make a conclusion like that. I play a lot of DD myself and if you have one of ((those)) teams, you can keep the enemys lit at all times and nothing happens. Ive seen games where 2 or even 3 of my BBs just did not shoot at all, just kept running away. So ofc your spotting damage stays low. Doesnt necessarily mean you didnt do your job as a DD. And I think its save to assume, that a player like @quickr knows how to play a DD.

The fun thing about playing any kind of gunboat DD though is you go into these situations where you spot the enemy DD and see that your team has open line of sight to it and think to yourself ah, he's dead now.

And then you see all the shells rainbow over you, and him, into the Kurfurst.

Memes aside, I hope that the DDs on my team are a bit careful, stay alive through the start of the game and provide spotting and torpedo warning. DDs are a class that becomes more influential the longer the game drags on, so starting out cautiously is usually for the better.

Preferably, if they're planning on engaging enemy DDs, I hope they don't stray so far from friendly ships that they're outside of effective fire support range. I try to help out friendly DDs as much as possible, but once you go past 12-ish km it starts to get difficult to provide effective supporting fire against enemy DDs with a lot of ships (IE cruisers with high arcs and BBs with bad dispersion and/or shell velocity).
