[HAMAR] Puffin_ Players 737 posts Report post #1 Posted October 15, 2020 For me it is a cruiser that 1. Moves like a glued brick 2. Garbage AA 3. To short range 15.6 km 4. Easy to shot when smoking up or in smoke 5. (No hydro so easy to torp in smoke.) Does have hydro. 6. No radar How are you supposed to do good in Anchorage? What is the best play style? 3

Hirohito Players 1,717 posts 6,192 battles Report post #5 Posted October 15, 2020 She seems a lot like London to me, just with better torps, somewhat better range and no heal, and at t8 vs t6. Both are otherwise CAs with 15s reload, Hydro and smoke. I love the London personally so Im definitely getting this one.

[SHAD] Miscommunication_dept Players 5,512 posts 24,441 battles Report post #8 Posted October 15, 2020 I like it. Got my highest T8 cruiser damage in her a few days ago, 187k. I am trying spotter at the moment for those times you need a little more range Hydro seems pointless in smoke when you will be detected at 8km. Dont forget to use the AP!! [SPURD] Itwastuesday Players 1,768 posts 13,575 battles Report post #9 Posted October 15, 2020 All true, also slow reload. But I still like her. - Alpha blaps - Torps of trolling - Smoke is great when used properly The most major issue I've had with her is that the AA is so garbage that she can be struck four times by a squadron.

The only torp hit I got was on a random destroyer. I shot them at a battleship but the unspotted destroyer got in the way. Made me smile.

You need to smoke up in that golden area between your firing range and your regular detection range (usually dropping the smoke right before you are likely to get detected), so that you have a healthy range for both engaging targets that might try to kite away, as well as a healthy range for disengaging once the smoke wears off or someone looks like they wanna rush you down. Overstay your welcome in that smoke, and you'll promptly get sunk.

I had much better success that way than trying to smokecamp, for one thing she's so clumsy you get hit in smoke by either shell or torp anyway. That, or I use it to delay being killed by lolcarrier by a minute or two.

My Kurfurst love her, citadel after citadel She is like a big fat slow duck and turns like brick, but it is pretty while sinking slowly with her fancy shinning camo.
[P0RT] Admiral_H_Nelson Players 3,938 posts 23,206 battles Report post #19 Posted October 15, 2020 Since I am a coop peasant I have to comment only from that perspective. In the (very rare these days) long games Anchorage is great. In the more typical short games Anchorage plays very well but runs out of time to build a good score.
[BODEM] FukushuNL Players 1,235 posts 8,476 battles Report post #20 Posted October 16, 2020 Offtopic: all those that say she is so nice to citadel not making a point because there are many great cruisers that are nice to citadel. Says nothing about Anchorage. On topic: she is not an easy cruiser for me, but she got the same feel as all the other US cruisers got. This may sound weird, but the way she looks and the way her guns work (sound, spread, fire chance, etc) makes her feel very solid. Got the same feeling in Cleveland, New Orleans, etc. For me those things make me feel more comfortable playing a ship and somehow make me play better, although the two games I had in Anchorage, one was terrible. I was thinking during the start of the second game with her yesterday about her specialties apart from the smoke gimmick and I must say, objectively I couldn't really find one so soon. The range ain't that great, she is slow and cumbersom, her AA ain't that great, she is missing the heavy AP from her siblings, no radar. On the other hand, 15.something km is quite workable, she got torps, with long range, she got gearing smoke and hydro and is still quite tanky. I need to play more games with her, but I think she is just not an OP ship and you have to work to get results. She feels good, she feels she got potential and for me that makes me want to play her. Plus she really looks good.

Until a dd with far less detection spots you and then what do you do, spin around and race away? Oooops, dead . I think there's a clearly discernable difference between what ships could and should be able to do, and then what really happens in the game when variables like multiple players in different ships with different capabilities are added to the mix. CV's and radar, dd's with low detection. Rock paper scissors? Some rocks are bigger than other rocks and just smash little rocks to pieces....some rocks have spikes on them and poke holes in the paper, some scissors are blunt....I presume the ship will have to find a very small niche to fit into, i.e. the perfect conditions for it to shine, in the hands of someone with more experience. [HAMAR] Puffin_ Players 737 posts Report post #22 Posted October 16, 2020 Anchorage must be the clumsiest brick of all T8 Cruisers in the game. Just trying to stop her when smoking up takes ages. Do you want to farm a cruiser that can´t do nothing? Shoot Anchorage smoking up and then shoot at the end of that smoke . Anchorage is the definition of Turkey shooting I want a special Turkey camo for Anchorage. It would fit so well The only T8 American Cruiser that does nothing against T6 planes. Anchorage most be the worst ship coming from the Dockyard in this game.
[X-10] ___V_E_N_O_M___ Players 2,129 posts 14,292 battles Report post #23 Posted October 16, 2020 Reload sucks and no super heavy shells like DM. Suggest give her SHS or decrease the reload time to 12 secs. The spotting range in smoke also sucks, Smolensk has dd smoke detection but Anchorage has 9k in smoke. Renders her useless for camping in open water. She needs work.....

After that I switched to more kiting where the smoke will immediately block line of sight.
