I love this map!
It's usually very adrenaline-intensive and fast-paced as there are no hiding spots (apart from smoke, to an extent), which really makes combat change drastically to the typical game.


Can of course be disadvantageous for some ships, but all in all great fun every time I get it (only 3 times so far :Smile_sad: ).

I think I've only ever played it once and was sure that it was a glitch as all the silly islands had disappeared!   It is the perfect map for historical vessels but it needs cohesive team play with a good level of command.  Most players prefer to play ring-a-ring-o'-roses around the islands where 12 separate battle plans can be easily hidden.

"Yay, Ocean!" is what I type at the beginning in open chat whenever I find myself in that map, so yes, I enjoy it a lot on the rare occasions it appears. The only ships that I've found having it hard are those that rely too much on positioning, like stationary smokes and, to a lesser extent, USN cruisers. If only it were also accessible at lower tiers...

 

Radar Minotaur works perfectly fine, with pretty intense gameplay, although the damage numbers are meagre and the general role unappealing. You go after your natural preys (DDs) but more in a way of negating them the caps at the early stages (and if the team also fires upon them, even better), turning away and wiggling while every red focuses you until you go dark, acting as a fire diverter and utility ship.

It was frequent at mid tiers when the game was released so its back to the old days

I played it in the US Tier 3 cruiser St Louis - not fun as it took almost the whole game to get from where I spawned to the enemy base! It is however a great map.

I remember it too. See it way too rarely these days. Mostly just the landlubbers' maps, not much fun for us salty old sea dogs. :cap_old:

As a DD main ocean gives me everything I need to create havoc for the enemy team.

 

Even in CV games Mashum shines.

 

I count the games I get on Ocean and I have had exactly four in two years...
