[STUHL] ObiWankov Players 219 posts Report post #1 Posted August 13, 2020 Can someone explain to me why people tend to be rather mad about the Puerto Rico Dockyard Event? As far as I can tell (wasn't really active during that event), WG was giving out a ship for free (if you played enough battles anyway) or you could buy stages for doubloons. Even from completing single missions people were getting free stuff and they are still mad? I fail to see the reason why the Dockyard Event would have been such a disaster in the mind of the "community". Care to share your thoughts?

I fail to see the reason why the Dockyard Event would have been such a disaster in the mind of the "community". Care to share your thoughts? Because the "free" part was a massive bait and switch. To get the PR without paying for it you had to have: -8-9 hours per day to play -Insane amount of economy camos and signals -Almost every ship in port. -Unicum level stats And even then you weren't guaranteed anything as the directive requirements were bonkers. Search reddit, there are posts there with calculations how much time you had per directive to get the ship. This was compounded by shady communication from WG, where suddenly the Gorizia was touted as the event ship, WG reps stating that the event was for "the crippled and the unemployed" etc.
[CBS] Allied_Winter Players 6,242 posts 10,755 battles Report post #5 Posted August 13, 2020 1. WG hinted in the lead up, that the ship will be a freemium (in essence: obtainable just by casually playing during Christmas time) 2. The directives on the leading up PTS looked managable. And while PTS Missions always are easier, nobody expected such a steep incline in mission targets (e.g. 24.5 potential DMG in French or Russian cruisers iirc). Meaning, that if you haven't had researched a required ship type or nation you'd be left out to dry. 3. While it was clear that you could finish the mission chain with dubloons, nobody knew until the event came around how a) expensive it actually was and b) how little predictable your investment will be. In the end, to get the PR in a rather comfortable pace, you'd had to spent at least 24k dubloons (compare that to the 3500 dubloons for the Odin together with a much finer adjustment possible, e.g. buying three or four stages in the end when you recognize you won't make it in time). 4. The progress of the PR build ran constantely. Meaning that the points towards her would tick even with you not being online. A great thing at first, but coupled with the harsh mission requirements it meant that IF you were actually brave enough to go for the PR for free you had to complete each directive within 24 to 48 hours of the directive going live. Otherwise you'd be too late to buy the next points booster upgrade and thus not gather enough points per second. 5. WG became really defensive, doubling down on the initial statements, that it's still obtainable by just playing (and afaik even changed the wording in one of the articles or the release video, I'm not quite sure). 6. WG's then Head of Community (or whatever his position was) in St.P. posted a picture of him obtaining the PR "quickly and for free". By using his WG provided dubloons. Mocking the community in the process and pooring more fuel to the fire. 7. In the end WG appologized for miscommunication and that actually Gorizia was the main "For Free" price all players could earn. Mudding the waters even further. Overall it left a bitter taste in the mouth of many players BUT on the same time PR sold quite often so ... yeah. Make of that what you want.
