Alaska a must have for upcoming sprint?

Put some thought into the umpcoming Sprint with tier IX ships concerning cruisers.

I can't think of a great tech-tree cruiser at this tier.

Americans: seattle sucks and buffalo is basically the old Baltimore

Russians: the donkey is too weak, Riga is ok I guess.

Japan: ibuki is great but doesnt have the armor or turn rate to be competitive.

Italy: I will love seeing them on the enemy teams.....brindisi is terrible IMO.

Brits: enough posts about how "great" Neptune is.

French:  Suffers same as the Ibuki with super unreliable armor but good guns.

For premiums Alaska seems like the most valuable option......its a pocket Iowa in every respect. There are other great tier 9 premiums but am I correct that Alaska is the best option?

From my perspective, I can think of far worse choices - the lack of CVs should mean that more DD mains will come out of hiding, and Alaska is one of the more threatening things in the game if there isn't a CV in the vicinity...

Roon could do well. Great hydro, quite tanky and good rushing torpedos. Surely both premium germans will do better. Brindisi ist that bad IMO, can punish every cruiser and dd with those SAP.

Not a cruiser mate. But yes Benham is nice.

Benham is waiting in port next to Kitakaze and Black.

Musashi was afaik crowned the most OP tier 9 according to stats about a year ago. Then there is JB too.

Cruisers I never play in Ranked. Too damn squishy and easily spotted, even the supercruisers like Krohnstadt.

A 3v3 Sprint sounds like an opportunity for Pommern to actually shine.

Just push people with your hydro and torps and get your 12 guns into their face...

Nose-in pommeren seems quite tanky but from facing dozens of them today I'm not scared.

Its guns are terrible and any broadside leads to large hits.

It looks like this could be the season of the Kreigsmarine.

I had a game last night with 3 Pommern a side... they were all destroyed within 13 minutes.

A bit offtopic since we are on cruisers but,

- no CV

- lot of large clumsy cruisers

My Musashi will have a field day

The thing is that in a 3v3 he could just charge you and at close range it could be deadly.

Haven't tested myself yet though...

Well Tirp was good in the 1v1 the 3v3 is not far from that I guess and she does carry hydro to boot...

1v1 buffalo (or any other HE spammer with heal) beats alaska any time

It's same as in current ranked... Tallinn was everywhere in recommendation list, but it's a bad pick due to abundance of atagos

You don't get to shoot broadsides in 3v3

Big laughs are expected when Pomegrenade tries to rush a Georgia on speedboost to get the torps out. Also, I'd rather be in a Georgia for the secondary duel.
