It's something I have witnessed a lot lately and which I find quite interesting, though in reality very frustrating.

You know that moment, where you've fired a couple of shots at the enemy, released your massive load of torpedos (#balanced) , dodged massive amounts of incoming fire, made it out alive,  laughed the enemy in the face..

And that moment you go undetected, or made it out of range, hid into smoke..

Out of nowhere a last, devestating salvo of pain arrives on a cloud of anger..

..delivering citadel hits, fires, destroyed modules, massive damage and you're like

What the f#+k!! I almost made it! Where did that come from?! arrgh (pain!)

What do you think, gents?

Has that happened to you?

  • Players shoot these salvos, not WG or the game, they do not come out of nowhere
  • when you do not know where they come from, you should work on your map awareness
  • flight times can be up to 20s and some people even give of a shot shortly after you go undetected
  • it is only natural that you face incoming fire for some time after you go undetected

Some of my best salvoes against DDs were blind shooting :D

It probably has a lot to do with the fact that ships in smoke are either stationary or moving slowly, so if you memorize where they were and RNG gods allow, more shells may connect than on other occasions.

Sooo.. you really think you have to defend WG against a post like this?

Wow...

You're sure you're not a bot, programmed for such behaviour? ^^

I am just explaining to him how it works.

If spreading knowlege is the equivalent of defending WG, then I am sure this will never happen to you...

Definately not. If I were to educate people in this game and/or forum I'd expect to get paid for it :)

Pete, you fell for it. Get outta here..

I was litterally describing a kind of a phenomenon, not bashing RNG or WG.

To me its often the last salvo, that does the most damage. That's it.

It's kind of a funny way of life (or rng) saying:
"Not so fast, young man. you haven't opened your gift, yet"

Also, It doesnt have to be blind firing. Sometimes the salvo is shot a moment before you go undedected.

And it doesn't really matter. Its about the idea, not the technicality.

[edit: I just added the RNG choice for fun. It worked! :D]

Not very familiar with the concept. Usually, the most devastating salvo is the one fired by whatever Italian cruiser or big gun BB with a player that can actually aim. Might be first, might be last, might be in the middle.

Frankly, if you get devastated by a last salvo, it usually just means that there was someone further away that paid attention in big ship that has an idea how to aim (and predict turns) and fired while still having target lock, but shells arrived after you got unspotted. Given the range that would need to be involved, it's usually something with a crapton of alpha, like a BB, a heavy cruiser or a supercruiser and thus you can guess why it hurts so much. After all, when for example two Fletchers meet each other, the individual DD salvos don't do a lot per salvo, but if some Zao, Brindisi, BB decides to join in, their salvo might take a bit longer to arrive but obviously does a good bit more if it hits.

Storm Weather Shanty Choir's version of that one is brilliant.

Since you are not explaning stuff, one could say your posts are unconstructive? Is there not something in the forum rules about that?

When you do not want answers, do not ask questions.

And no, it is not a phenomenon.

Yeah, sometimes it's actually a BB in the back. And often I feel its someone else paying attention

In general I meant, that the last salvo actually does the main damage. So you could have doged a lot of potential dmg already, but the last one would actually hit (hard).

I have experienced this a lot in DDs myself. I have got out alive by the skin of me teeth, i've gone dark and I look up and can see it, that one shell on its way. It's like an inevitable harbinger of doom and I know, I just know what's going to happen.

It lands (of course) normally on my arse and I die cursing...

Don't turn. Just straightline away. Nobody anticipates that amount of stupidity audacity.

In some earlier discussion it was even suggested you should turn against the enemy, not away.

You wouldn't believe but there are real military officers who take their responsibilities very very seriously. I heard once about some major (almost colonel) who during a drill started counting paperclips.... :Smile_teethhappy:

I was baited by the thread title, I thought you were talking about the opposite "phenomenon" where the last salvo you YOU fire to kill a ship always seems to have a Citadel in it if you fire AP no matter where your shells hit, usually when the enemy has around 1k health left.

I do believe it !!

Witnessed it myself.

The worst are those who overdo it so much that one thinks it's an act... they even use forms of self-derision, double meanings and self-sarcasm one could take as hints that they play a comical role... you think it's funny... and then some while later, you realize they were dead serious about all the ridiculous things they said, and the self-derision are things they don't understand themselves but they picked up anyway from other people because they noticed that people smiled !!!

I will always remember the NCO responsible for my boot camp...

I know exactly what you mean. It's like "If you're not satisfied with our services you get a gift for free" - #bam!, citadel!

I guess we need to create an extra thread for that..called "the other last salvo phenomenon" ^^
